On Thursday, we noted a report from ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher which stated that Allan Houston was the front-runner to become the next GM for the Knicks. Howard Beck of the New York Times got more specific with the topic on Thursday. He reports that a person with "close ties to the franchise" said that Houston is "being groomed to take over" when team president Donnie Walsh retires. Walsh has two years left on his contract, the last year being a team option for 2011-2012. Walsh told Beck he "intends to fulfill" his contract. Some of the speculation on Houston assuming the GM role soon stems from the fact that the Knicks technically don't have anyone under contract with the title of "general manager" --- which would mean Houston could assume such a role ASAP. Though Beck reports that Glen Grunwald, the team's senior vice president of basketball operations, "effectively plays that role for the Knicks." So from this report, it still appears that Houston will assume a higher title and more prominence in the front office. It just might not happen until Walsh's contract is up.
He's the poster child of everything that went wrong with the Knicks. If you have a rule named after you because of an albatross contract you should never be allowed to GM a team.
This is bullshit, just cause this dude played the game doesn't mean he knows how to handle millions of dollars in cap and players and all this shit.
