As Cleveland Cavaliers fans continue to deal with the fallout from losing their hometown hero LeBron James, Bulls fans will be happy to know the mind set of Chicago native Derrick Rose on his future. "I'm never [leaving]," he said, before punctuating that statement a few seconds later. "Never." The Bulls’ 21-year-old All-Star made that clear during a conversation with me on Wednesday afternoon before Day 2 of Team USA's training camp. The South Side native doesn't want to ever play anywhere besides Chicago. After all the free-agent ups and downs Bulls fans have endured over the last couple of months, that declaration may be the best thing they've heard all summer. Here is the rest of my interview with Rose prior to Wednesday's practice: http://espn.go.com/blog/chicagobulls/post/_/id/1410/rose-im-never-leaving-chicago
I was thinking the same thing -- shouldn't have said that. Reinsdorf will use that against him in negotiations.
Two things: 1). I think Derrick Rose is a sincere guy, and he seems like the type who would prefer just to stay in one place, especially his hometown. 2). He's not 29, losing athleticism, and ringless yet.
This is true, but nonetheless, I'm pretty glad to hear it. I just hope three years of playing with Korver, and CJ Watson cements our greatness in his mind
thanks for coming out (y). anyways, the only time I would ever want him to leave is in 7 years if he still plays no D.
No disrespect to Chicago, but it's very rare that a guy stays in one place his whole career. In the last 20 years or so, only two superstars have stayed with their teams. Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan. Both of those guys who on the verge of leaving as well.
And Dwight Howard. I think his argument is fair from a forward-looking standpoint. Superstars at least for now seem more amenable to leaving the team that drafted them. But historically it isn't true.
I tip my hat to Rose. If I played in the NBA and were on Toronto, I would never leave. Ever for nothing. It's you're home town, he wants to be there through everything. Good to see some players out their has some balls and stick to their roots.
As much as I love Rose, talk is cheap. I want to hear him say this after 5-6 years (assuming they havent won a ship yet).
All ended up on the lakers. Gotta say i'm envious of how many superstars LA has gotten to come to join them over the years.
