Cyrus was a very good movie. The Kids are All Right was excellent for 2/3 but changed and got very heavy at the end; it felt like a different movie.
inception was a 7/10 as a date movie... too confusing for the wife to follow. I really enjoyed the storyline, but it was wholly predictable. Was it the exact same production team as Shutter Island?
Damn good point. Moon (2009 film with Sam Rockwell)- 7.5/10, I liked the concept and start/finish of the movie. The film is just a bit stagnant in the middle but it was very cool.
Rented Green Zone and The Ghost Writer this weekend. Both films take a premise from recent events and try and stretch a film out of it. Green Zone fails in doing that while The Ghost Writer succeeds. Both worth watching, Green Zone starts strong and then gets muddled. I still think the Hurt Locker is the best gulf war movie. The Ghost Writer is an intense political thriller by Roman Polanski. Not as good as Chinatown but better than anything he's done in years. Green Zone - 6/10 The Ghost Writer - 8/10
Inception 9/10 - Incredible mind bender with an ending that questions the whole reality of the movie. I think critics are afraid to admit how good it really is. 10 out of 10 for originality In The Loop 9/10 - A political satire in a mockumentary style. This movie is one of the funniest movies I have seen in years. Check out these clips and see if you like them. Barton Fink 8/10 - Another Coen Brothers classic. Steeped in homage to Polanski's The Tenant and Kubrick's The Shining, it's brilliant to say the least. If you're a fan of the Coen Brothers then you'd love this movie. It's got their dark sense of humor with another ending that will leave you scratching your head.
I feel ya, that's why I gave it an 8. I was reading some of the reviews over at the IMDB and they were acting like The Ghost Writer was a religious experience for them. According to the back story the writer was a reporter who used to be a huge Tony Blair supporter who became disillusioned with him over the gulf war. The ending I think was him inserting himself into the story and going out as a martyr.
Children of Men - 9/10 I've forgotten how overlooked this movie was. Cuaron is the only director I trust as much as Nolan at this point.
