Riiiiiight cause LBJ, Bosh and LeBron certainly didn't talk about it during the Olympics as was widely reported in about 200 languages.

HMM, I wonder which choice Stern would chose for Portland. Oh and a shout out for AWOJ who has laid a lot of groundwork for Stern on this one. I really hate that little bastard (Stern).

    And you're still friends? Wow.

I was just trying to point out that, in terms of tampering allegations, there's a pretty significant difference between the CP3 situation and the Heat signing a bunch of free agents. Sorry if that disturbed your digestion.

What's the difference? Or do you believe that they really only started talking about this once they became official FA's in June? I mean do you really believe that when there were absolute boatloads of rumors about their "plan" after Beijing?

No doubt. I swear I've read many articles about how Wade, James, and Bosh talked about this scenario while winning gold in 2008.

Stern just wants his mega-teams in huge markets. Part of me thinks that the Blazers may have a deal for Paul, but now Stern is stepping in to stop it. We can't have tiny Portland be an elite team via trade, right? That only works when Chris Wallace is giving away titles to the Lakers.

Pretty much. This actually could be read as Portland and NOH are close to a trade. Something (common sense) tells me he wouldn't be so concerned if CP3 was say having dinner with D'Antoni in NYC.

I already said that I thought they had probably talked over the past few years. Is it tampering for friends to talk about what they're going to do when they become free agents? Doubt it. Is it tampering for the Blazers or any team or any player to talk to another player who's under contract to try to get him to push for a trade while he's still under contract? Without a doubt.

So the difference to you is trade vs. Free Agency. OK, I don't agree with your fine line distinction, but at least it makes sense.

Wasn't it Clyde Drexler who was attempting to coerce Hakeem into stating he'd only sign with Portland, who was picking number 2 in the draft? And later Portland was found guilty of tampering, fined....and forced to then select Jordon (oops!) I mean Sam Bowie!

    Double ouch!

    That's only your opinion.

Wade recruiting those guys while under contract is tampering. It doesn't matter if you think it's not as bad.

The difference between our Darius Miles warning and the Chris Paul letter is that the Hornets went to Stern and got the Big Guy on their side. They got him to write the letter, so that it carries some authority. That's what Pritchard should have done.

I don't for a minute believe they never talked until July 1. But it's probably pretty hard to prove what happened in a private conversation in a restaurant or hotel room. The Joe Smith situation was a provable violation.

It seems to be David Stern's opinion as well since he sent out the memo against tampering to teams involved in the CP3 issue, but said nothing about Dwyane Wade and his buddies' alleged conversations.

I'm not comparing this to Joe Smith. I'm comparing Wade/Bosh/LBJ to the CP3 scenario. I don't believe for a second the former weren't meeting repeatedly even during and after Beijing. There were sooooo many rumors and then it happened. Seems a bit too convenient. If Stern wanted to stop it he could have issued this memorandum many moons ago. He didn't, so the conclusion is he WANTED them together and also he does NOT want CP3 to go, or at the very least one can speculate not to certain teams.
