Nice pickup...Seems kind of a strange move though.

Re: Jannero Pargo signs with the Warriors

Sort of a CJ Watson clone, 6'1" PG who doesn't rack up too many assists, scores a bit though, frankly I think this is not a good move, what's the point in spending $2.4 mils when you just got Lin for pennies and you could try out a Summer League player, like Woodside, for pennies as well, Pargo does not really do anything the Warriors need, he shoots the three okay at 35% career, but only 2.0 career APG? That screams CJ Watson right there. And career 6.6 PPG. Nothing to write home about. If he was 22 years old, then I would say give him a shot. But he's going on 31 years old, and this will be his 8th season, so c'mon, this is like a Devean George signing right here, a waste of $$ IMO, it's not like he's going to shore up the PG position or something, and he's not going to help with a playoff push or something, I dunno, I'm just so sick of mediocre veteran bench players UNLESS they fill an important role, like Raja Bell would have, but what does Pargo bring that's worth $2.4 mils, and did we really need to give him 2 years!? Blah

edit: oh, and another thing, why not use this money toward a Lou Amundson signing? If the Pargo deal prevents that move, I'll be bummed.

He was a good player a few years ago. Not sure if hes really better than Charlie Bell though. Did we really need another 6'2 combo guard? And why a two year deal? Hopefully thats a team option or second year isn't guaranteed. Doesn't help us anywhere where we need depth.

Don't really understand how this helps us with Charlie Bell and Lin already here.

Re: Jannero Pargo signs with the Warriors

MTII says on his twitter that Pargo and Amundson have the same agent and perhaps we're posturing to land Amundson. Seems like you hear this type of thing thrown around but it never actually works out that way (except when Murphy and JRich both signed deals simultaneously).

And I'm guessing this is actually league minimum. Its 1.2 mil a year average so can we assume the first year is about a million? Usually guys who've been in the league a long time have prorated league minimum salaries where the team they payed for doesn't have to pay a few hundred K of their salary.

If its league min I'm ok with it because it virtually cost us nothing. Sounds like Pargo does play PG even though hes a chucker and I believe Riley said Bell is just a SG before. This gives us insurance/stopgap for Lin. Like you said though, it better not stop us from getting some decent backups at 3/4/5.

Lacob move #2 is a head scratcher. Pargo will be 31 this year. Is Amundson worth two roster spots?

Weird move. We have a lot of depth at the "little guard" position LOL.

If this is leverage move to get Amudson, then OK.

Re: Jannero Pargo signs with the Warriors

How could he leverage it though? Like, if it's the agent telling GS "if you sign one of my guys, then I'll talk my other one into coming over," isn't that tampering, or at the least, if Amundson found out that his agent was "selling out" or trying to ship him to his "buddy" team, wouldn't he want to fire his agent? It's like you're choosing between 2 houses to buy, A and B, and your real estate agent tells you to go with B, even though it has a leaky roof and A is much nicer, just because your agent is friends with the sellers of B.

Even if GS were the best choice for Amundson, the fact that his agent is using him to leverage other deals compromises their business relationship.

Now, if it's the other way around, and it's Amundson saying "look, if you sign my buddy Pargo, then I'll join you too," well that doesn't make any sense either, because first off they haven't ever played together, and second, who the hell would demand to play with Pargo, lol!

Either way, it doesn't make much sense as far as Amundson is concerned. It doesn't make much sense at all, really. There must be something I'm missing...

Re: Jannero Pargo signs with the Warriors

Pargo is alright, he didn't look that great last year though. He was superb back in New Orleans, I haven't kept up with him enough otherwise.

The contract is probably under the Bi-Annual exception if its 1.2 million. But for his position and for 2 years, both financially on on-the-court, it's definitely a head scratcher like everyone else is feeling.

I don't think it's part of a larger deal, but even if there was some interplay between Amundson and Pargo due to their agents, it's not necessarily tampering. It's not that ethical either, it forced us into that Dan Fegan situation a while back where we overpaid for Murphy.

I guess this was an insurance signing in case Jeremy Lin struggles.

Amundsen would be nice, but there are other notables on Mark Barelstein's list:

    He Also Represents:
    David Lee
    Ronny Turiaf
    Devean George
    Charlie Bell

It doesn't necessarily mean anything. Maybe this was part of the backdoor deal with Lee.

Re: Jannero Pargo signs with the Warriors

    It means:
    PG - Curry, Pargo, Lin
    SG - Ellis, Bell

It does not mean Amundson. Lacob thinks Pargo is cheaper version of CJ Watson and he wanted to lock the second PG spot down. Pargo fits better with Warriors run and gun style over Chicago.

I hope Pargo doesn't keep chuckin' the ball like Baron. Chicago fans do not talk highly of him.

BTW Warriors are pimpin' Lin's jersey over Udoh.

Totally agree, its a weak argument whenever you hear things like this. I think Riley/Lacob just wanted Pargo hoping that he would go back to his days in NO. It makes no sense for all the reasons you stated.

BTW Raptors just traded a 2nd round pick for David Anderson and I think they were in the running for Lou Amundson. One less team to sign him.

That's encouraging, I'm starting to think more and more that snatching Amundson could end up being a coup... I can see him really having a monster year with the right system and minutes. I think he'll definitely challenge David Lee, the two seem very similar to me...

More importantly he'll challenge Udoh and Wright. Seems like the quintessential Nellie scenario where he would win minutes over the two lotto picks.

Apparently we're also in the running to bring back Tolliver. I'd much rather have Amundson who is a rebounding and energy specialist as opposed to Tolliver who doesn't do anything really well. I would imagine Amundson will cost a lot more though.

Re: Jannero Pargo signs with the Warriors

Well, the rumor is Curry, Pargo AND Chris Paul are good friends. That's better than Amundson .

I think we have to trust Lacob's judgment on this. Pargo is backup #2 until Lin proves different. He must've seen Pargo and knows what he can do. I haven't seen Pargo since the NO days or maybe I have, but didn't pay much attention to him in Chicago. If Pargo can start hitting the 3s again, then he's a keeper. Besides he's cheapest one can get for a vet. Some other team would've signed him.

The warriors are gearing up for what will probably be an injury plagued season or they are shopping Ellis so we need the guard depth

In Warriors tradition, I bet Curry gets hurt because it's his turn.

This is good to hear. Even if we do end up signing him it hopefully it will be for only 1 year at the minimum.

Use that cash to get Amundson! Hes actually worth offering a multi year deal since hes young and will always give you effort and rebounding.
