Righthander Jake Westbrook, acquired today by the Cardinals from Cleveland in a three-team trade that sent Cardinals outfielder Ryan Ludwick to San Diego, will make his Cardinals debut Monday night here against Houston, manager Tony La Russa said this afternoon. The 32-year-old Westbrook, 6-7 with a 4.51 earned run average in 21 starts for Cleveland, was slated to pitch this afternoon in Toronto but was scratched when the deal was about to be finalized. Westbrook likely is to be here on Sunday but La Russa didn't want to move ace righthander Adam Wainwright off his turn to face the Pittsburgh Pirates. With Westbrook to pitch Monday, rookie Jaime Garcia will be moved back to Tuesday, with righthander Blake Hawksworth, who was to have started Tuesday, to go back to the bullpen, at least temporariy. Westbrook has not been added to the roster yet, but with Ludwick subtracted, there was an opening for an outfielder. So the Cardinals have removed Nick Stavinoha (separated shoulder) from the 15-day disabled list. Stavinoha, who has been on a rehabilitation option at Class AAA Memphis, was supposed to arrive later this evening. Westbrook's name had been mentioned often in the last week in trade rumors involving the Cardinals. But Ludwick's name hadn't been mentioned that much as it was assumed the Cardinals would be offering younger players for Westbrook, who can be a free agent at the end of the season.
