Remember when the Warriors waived Speedy Claxton -- and his $5.2 million expiring contract -- back in early February?

Turns out, the Warriors didn’t say good-bye for long. Claxton is back with the team, working as a scout. Claxton, who started on July 1, lives in New York, and his focus is the East Coast.
Claxton was the Warriors’ representative at the Orlando Summer League in early July. Apparently, this all means that Claxton’s 10-year NBA playing career is over.

And leave it to Claxton, one of the most quiet NBA players you’ll ever meet, to leave playing the game without a peep.

“Under the radar,” was how Bill Duffy, Claxton’s agent, described his client calling it quits as a player.

Claxton had two stints with the Warriors, the most recent coming when he was acquired along with Acie Law from Atlanta for Jamal Crawford in June 2009. Claxton didn’t play this past season for the Warriors, and was waived on Feb. 6, a move that was widely criticized.

At the time, the hope was to use Claxton’s expiring money -- and perhaps parlay it with Raja Bell’s expiring contract -- to acquire a productive player. Instead, Claxton was waived less than two weeks before the trading deadline.

Claxton missed the 2000-01 and 2007-08 seasons because of injury, and played only two games in 2008-09. He had one of his best seasons in 2003-04 when he averaged 10.6 points and 4.5 assists per game with the Warriors.

I love Speedy Very humble guy and a very good player. It's too bad he was injured for most of his career. The guy was almost Allen Iverson quick.
