LOS ANGELES (AP)—Guard Shannon Brown(notes) will return to the Los Angeles Lakers for a shot at their third straight championship.

Brown’s agent, Mark Bartelstein, told The Associated Press on Thursday that the high-flying guard agreed to a two-year deal worth $4.6 million to return for his third season with Los Angeles.

The Lakers acquired Brown in a trade in early 2009, and he quickly earned a role in their rotation as a backup to Kobe Bryant(notes). Brown averaged 8.1 points and 2.3 rebounds last season while playing solid defense for the Lakers.

After opting out of his contract earlier this summer, Brown considered more lucrative offers from several teams, including New York, Cleveland and New Orleans.

    ESPN.com first reported the deal.

    Congrats to him.

I think LA is the best city to live in out of those other three.

Not to mention the Lakers being the best team to play for out of the other three.

Must have been tough passing up the oppurtunity to play with Chris Paul and settling on Kobe.

    Im glad he's back.

I'm glad he's back and I think he'll have a better year this year compared to last. Last year it seemed like Phil tried to force him to be a ball handler and initiator. With Blake here, Shannon can cut to the hoop and not worry about handling the rock.

Great point. Because Blake is a better PG in terms of setting up others than Farmar, Shannon can play out there like he used to. Catching lobs, taking open shots, and cutting towards the basket, rather than trying to create his own shot and other stuff.

He also had that injury on his shooting hand, his thumb I think. That really seemed to cause him some problems shooting the ball. Hopefully it will be all healed up.
