Lee Westwood came to the Bridgestone Invitational with hopes of overtaking Tiger Woods for No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking, but instead he hobbled through two rounds of play before withdrawing from the tournament. After shooting a second-round 76 on Friday, Westwood, ranked third in the world, withdrew because of a throbbing right calf that has been bothering him for the better part of a month. He will also skip next week's PGA Championship. "I will be out for as long as it takes to get better," Westwood said. "I am just hoping that it will be in time for me to play in the Ryder Cup." Westwood, who finished second to Phil Mickelson at the Masters and second to Louis Oosthuizen at the British Open, won the St. Jude Classic on the PGA Tour the week prior to the U.S. Open.
