Would you trade Deng + Noah for Mello now?

There's been a lot of discussion in our comment section about Carmelo Anthony given the rumors of him refusing to sign an extension and a seeming preference to leave Denver. However, most of that talk has centered around a view I consider ridiculous, Deng + Gibson + picks for Anthony.

If we can do that trade, then absolutely, we do it. It's a no-brainer, captain-obvious, hell yes, type of trade. However, for those same reasons, Denver isn't touching that with a 10 foot pole. Deng's salary commitment is so high and Denver is so close to clearing almost everyone off the books that there's simply little incentive for them to take back Deng's future commitment just to get a role player type prospect and some terrible draft picks.

They also probably don't do this trade either, but if they were willing, are you in?

No point in trying to add too many quality players. We like having a roster full of so-so guys and hopefully one turns into something better.

I dunno, but I'm pretty inclined to see Noah as a very, very good player who it's not a no brainer to trade for Melo.

Boozer and Melo and no center sound like a horrid defensive front-court.

We signed Kurt Thomas for this very kind of contingency.

I know this is just idle speculation on a slow news day. But there is no chance of any deal happening, regardless of what Mello is threatening. He's the franchises major draw, and they aren't going to give that up until they are forced to in free-agency. Same thing with Chris Paul.

Yeah, I know. But we did have the cap space at one point to sign David Lee to go with Boozer. Then trading Noah wouldn't be as big a deal, eh?

It would be if you wanted anybody to play any defense.

You'd only need a little defense with Rose/anyone/Boozer/Lee/Melo as your starters.

You'd need a lot more than you think.

You'd need a lot less than you think.

Those 4 starters are likely to get you 90 points on many nights, and you're probably looking at a 60 win team.

That's a team build for the regular season. Yea, they probably win close to 60 but they ain't making it to the finals. The chance at Lee is long gone anyway. We might as well wish that Lebron didn't like how Riley was looking at LeMom and decided to come here.

Meh, I don't think Lee and Boozer was a good fit, and I think Noah is a guy who's going to be getting DPOY votes this year.

For what it's worth, Boozer was in the top 10 in defensive win shares and top 20 in DRtg last year. I think that largely stems from his rebounding, but he's not a terrible defender at all. He'll deliver a foul, he's got quick feet, and he understands what to do.

Mello is a star, no doubt, but we give up a lot of defense in both Noah and Deng.

Still I would day do it if Anthony signs an extension with us. Worry about the center spot next year.

How often does a guy like Melo come along? Like once every 20 years. He may be the 2nd best player in the league behind LeBron (arguably). 28 PPG on 22 FGA is quite good, almost 1.5 pts per shot. And he gets to the line 9 FTA/game, too. He's only 25 years old, too.
