I believe HOU does a lot of work on advanced stats for very small things - such as "how he defends going left" and "help defense on pick'n'roll from the weak side". Maybe the combination of big money savings, these specific needs they have and Ariza's rumored "culture" issues made it reasonable for them.

this trade has literally no impact on the rockets chances for the playoffs next season. if relatively healthy, the rockets are an absolute lock.

    pg - brooks/lowry
    sg - martin/lee
    sf - battier/budinger
    pf - scola/patterson/hill
    c - yao/brad miller/hayes

the team was definitely better with ariza starting and battier backing up the 2/3, but that's still a team that is a lock for the playoffs unless yao is not able to play(in which case, yes, the ariza deal would hurt the rockets chances).

On a separate note (cause noticed you guys were talking about the NOH lineup), they traded Julian Wright to Toronto for Marco Belinelli

I guess it depends on whether or not you believe that there was a "major" personal issue between Ariza and another key player that needed to be resolved. In any case, Swapping Lee for Ariza saves the Rockets a ton of cash, which is kind of a moneyball move.

KP, who everyone loved, traded Zach Randolph for a pile of shit. I guess I am just saying that sometimes trades aren't made for obvious reasons.

I wonder whose opinion this is, Chad Ford's or the Hornets'? Either way, I'm going to say "no". Or maybe even "not yet".

Cho and Co. are still deciding what iron to pull out of the fire. I mean, eight SG/SF's on the 15-man roster isn't such a bad thing is it? FML.

Perhaps a GM "experienced in making trades" would have done more than sit on his ass crunching numbers while a very young and good PG is part of a 4-team trade.

You gotta love the reactive mindset rather than being proactive. 'Let's see what other teams do first.'

    :sigh:

All I can think of is that they were still thinking that if they waited the Hornets out, they'd eventually move Paul before the deadline and they wanted to see if they could revisit a deal at that time ... not exactly a great strategy IMO, but a possibility.

Ya, no kidding. A trade for TP would salvage this summer.

We'll still be good without a trade, but if we even want a hope of challenging LA or MIA, we need another star.

What the fuck does it matter? What, I can't be at least a little bit frustrated that the Blazers didn't get Collison? People make fun of David Khan for having 3 PGs ... have they seen our roster? A crapload of "combo" guards, but only one true PG (who is well past the age of 30).

Even if by some miracle Oden plays 70+ games, this team is not a title contender.

Yeah Ariza's a bad man that's why he got that 5 game suspension after the intentional undercut that may have messed up Rudy's career. Oh right never mind he was still a Laker then...
