Kaberle staying in Toronto

Tomas Kaberle isn't going anywhere, at least not without his approval.

The Toronto Maple Leafs were unable to make a deal that they found suitable for their offensive defencemen, and with Kaberle's no trade clause kicking back in, control of his future falls back to Kaberle.

"While a number of clubs made offers to trade for Tomas, none of them reflected Tomas's value to our team," Leafs general manager Brian Burke said in a statement. "I understand a period like this is stressful to the player, and we are pleased that there is a resolution, and we can all continue to prepare for the coming season."

The 32-year old defenceman, who has one-year remaining on his contract had seven goals and 42 assists in 82 games last season.

Tomas Kaberle, the subject of numerous trade rumors this summer, will remain a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

A clause in the defenseman's contract specified that Kaberle's no-trade clause would be invalid from the 2010 Entry Draft until Aug. 15 if the Leafs did not make the playoffs. But while the Leafs said they received offers, no deal was made before the no-trade clause kicked in again.

"The hockey club confirms this evening that Tomas Kaberle remains a Leaf," Maple Leafs General Manager Brian Burke told the club's website. "While a number of clubs made offers to trade for Tomas, none of them reflected Tomas' value to our team. I understand a period like this is stressful to the player, and we are pleased that there is a resolution, and we can all continue to prepare for the coming season."

Kaberle, an eighth-round pick by the Leafs in 1996, has played every one of his 820 NHL games with Toronto, amassing 80 goals and 482 points. Last season he had 7 goals and 49 points while playing all 82 games for the sixth time in 11 seasons.

FAIL!!! This is ridiculous. Toronto already has 6 starting d-men (Komi, Gunnar, Dion, Beauch, Lebda, and Luke), plus Holzer signed on for the year.

How could Burke (not "Toronto", but Burke himself) NOT trade Kaberle away? He was asking too high of a price in return for a 32 year-old defenceman who has struggled mightily for most of the last 2 seasons.
