Agree with all of this but I still enjoy him. It's like hanging out with one of your friends. Totally full of shit, making ludicrous statements and getting in arguments about ridiculous things.

The thing I like most about him is that I think he actually believes every thing he writes unlike 99.475% of todays writers whose sole purpose seems to be to wind people up and generate angry letters.

Um, the Bay Area, especially the East Bay, isn't much better.

It's like when people say that LA is hot and smoggy everyday?

Having lived in LA for 3 years in my early twenties, I'd say it's pretty damn close unless you are a mile or so from the coast.

Yes pretty much the same thing. LOL. The weather west of LA (on the beach) where most of the players live, is pretty tough to beat. I live in between Malibu and Santa Monica, and it is pretty much 78 degrees and smog free every day. Yes I know very boring....... (10 months a year)

Ok, guys. I doubt NBA players are comparing NBA potential cities for the coldest winters....I think they are more thinking about 'fun' but... Look, we all know Portland is a great city...but, the truth is, it's like Drexler once said to another hall of famer - "welcome to my world" - it's small town. It's small time. Our population is near Charlotte and it is associated with rain and pot smokin' hippies and a gay mayor who likes minor interns..

    It's been a long time since 1977.....

To an NBA player, Portland may be small-time, but you have the entire city behind you. Most cities have other pro teams sharing the spotlight, whereas if you're the man on the Blazers, you own the city.

I wonder why, if Portland is such a terrible place to live for NBA players, why do so many of them who played here come back to live after they retire? Even a guy like Rasheed Wallace - who was basically ran out of town - is coming back to live. I guess it's not such a bad place once you actually spend some time here.

It's a matter of perspective. If you are in your early twenties, single and looking to hit as much tail as humanly possible in as little time as humanly possible then you probably want to go to a warm weather city with a vibrant nightlife and lots of ladies in minimal attire (not sweaters and parkas). If you are retiring from hoops or nearing the end of your career it's likely you are in your early to mid-thirties, have a family, are looking for a little more stability and a place to raise your children and take it easier ... don't forget most of these young players live elsewhere in the off-season too, which means they are only in town during the most miserable time of the year (October - April).

So many? Over the years, who? Maybe a few.

I lived outside P-Town for 25 years. I've also lived in Phoenix, Anchorage, Salt Lake City, Tacoma, outside Reno, Seoul-Korea, in addition to owning a place in Florida and now I live in Central America. It's all a matter of perspective and preference. If you like 3 boring seasons of dreary-drizzle, PacNW is perfect. If you like sun and heat, or distinct seasons, Portland blows - literally.

Wait, it literally blows? I guess I thought it was figuratively :dunno:

I agree as well. Living within a mile of the beach is expensive, crowded, expensive, hard to get to, expensive, far from workplaces, expensive:

And yet, any other part of LA BLOWS by comparison. Couldn't stand the smog, heat, dust of living away from the water.

A book that focuses on the '79-80 Blazers (Walton is the primary tragic figure in the factual book), and written by David Halberstam, is something that you don't think that would be worth your t ime? Are you SURE you're a fan of the Blazers?
