As expected, Oklahoma City forward Jeff Green (right) and Washington center JaVale McGee have been cut from Team USA. The team trimmed the roster to 13 before Sunday's exhibition game against France at Madison Square Garden. The squad must be down to 12 players by Aug. 26, two days before the start of the World Championship, which runs Aug. 28-Sept. 12 in Turkey. It was expected Green and McGee would be cut after neither played in a scrimmage Saturday against China at Madison Square Garden. Both had told FanHouse after the game they didn't know how they stood at the time in regards to possibly being let go. "It's always difficult to tell anybody that we're going to reduce and we did,'' USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colengelo said in an interview at halftime of the game against France played in front of a sellout crowd. "They were both gracious when they were told. I mentioned it was possible they could be asked back the next couple of weeks if something happens, in terms of an injury or whatever. "The coaching staff just wanted to get down to a more workable, manageable group because you can't get playing time for them anyway (in the three exhibition games coming up in Europe). We need to find things out during games.'' Read more: http://nba.fanhouse.com/2010/08/15/team-usa-cuts-green-mcgee/
