Interim general manager Jerry Dipoto said the D-backs will not necessarily be active in trading before the season ends. "It's not a matter of other teams not having interest in our players," Dipoto said. "It's a matter of being settled with what we wanted to settle." That, he added, was accomplished by jettisoning four veterans -- pitchers Dan Haren, Edwin Jackson and Chad Qualls as well as catcher Chris Snyder -- in deals prior to the non-waiver Deadline. Those four transactions netted five pitchers age 25 or under, including Tuesday starter Daniel Hudson (4-1, 3.52 ERA). The Boston Globe reported on Sunday that the D-backs had placed both first baseman Adam LaRoche and second baseman Kelly Johnson on revocable waivers. The D-backs would be able to negotiate a swap only with the club that is awarded the claim. Teams can still make deals after Aug. 31, but any player added to a Major League roster will not be eligible for the postseason.
