"The Knicks are among the teams trying to acquire Rudy Fernandez from the Trail Blazers and they have offered forward Wilson Chandler." A league source told ESPN.com's Chris Sheridan that the Bulls and Celtics have each offered Portland a first-round draft pick in exchange for the Spanish swingman. Knicks offer Wilson Chandler for Rudy. http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/68774/20100820/knicks_offer_chandler_for_fernandez/ If this is true, I would do it in a hot second.
Re: Rudy For Wilson Chandler? Even though Rudy is being a little bitch, NY is a good fit for him. And Chandler would be a sweet bargaining chip in another trade for a quality PG.
Re: Rudy For Wilson Chandler? Funny that he's referred to as a shooting guard in the Sheridan piece. He's a large SF. How efficient is he?
Re: Rudy For Wilson Chandler? Obviously not good enough since Cho turned that alleged deal down. We should only trade Rudy for a Chris Paul or Dwight Howard. Geez, it's like you guys have no idea what his true value is
Re: Rudy For Wilson Chandler? I can't say I'm too enthusiastic. I want an absolute defensive stopper and/or a good-rebounding backup 4. I say package Rudy to Cleveland (plenty of minutes for him there, Byron Scott likes to run) to get Varejao. (Not to sound like a broken record...)
Re: Rudy For Wilson Chandler? Take a 1st round pick for Rudy, which helps thin out the roster at SG/SF, and be done with it. Why take Wilson Chandler when Matthews supposedly can play SF, Batum should get 30+ minutes, and the Blazers used a 1st round pick to take a SF?
Re: Rudy For Wilson Chandler? I think the Blazers are balking at the "caught with a dozen bags of pot stowed inside his expensive car" part of his resume. Personally I like a little wacky weed once in a while. But for an NBA player to have that much in his car does not bode well for him being too smart.
Re: Rudy For Wilson Chandler? I'm actually upset the Knicks even offered Wilson Chandler. Fernandez's value should be somewhat low now: He had a horrible season with averages of 6.8 points and 38% from the field, plus he's developing a reputation for being immature. Chandler, on the other hand, is a bit younger, has had a far better season, and I would argue has more potential than Fernandez. What is Portland expecting in return for him anyway?
Re: Rudy For Wilson Chandler? I heard an interview with Chandler and he said it was his man's pot. Still irresponsible of him to be around that, but I think the Knicks would have taken more action against him if he was actually smoking it.
Re: Rudy For Wilson Chandler? Are you kidding me? Make the trade, if it's still on the table. Chandler isn't exactly what we need, but he shoot well, isn't a slouch on defense, and rebounds too. The guy looks attractive on paper. He and Batum share nearly identical height/weight and Chandler averages 5 more points, 2 more boards and 1 more assist per game (he also plays about ten more minutes per game). But, he's got stock! DO IT CHO!
Re: Rudy For Wilson Chandler? You obviously haven't watched much of Wilson. His jumpshot is atrocious. It really reminds me of Ruben Patterson's jumper, or lack thereof.
Re: Rudy For Wilson Chandler? I think Cho and the Blazers know exactly what they want from the deal. I like the fact they aren't going to be pressured by Rudy or his agent.
Re: Rudy For Wilson Chandler? I think this is true, but at a certain point they should atleast get a 1st round pick. I'd rather have a pick than a rudy rotting on the bench.
Re: Rudy For Wilson Chandler? You obviously know everything there is to know, with great certainty. Chandler's FG % was a respectful 48% last season and his career three point % is above 30%. If you care to compare, Chandler made 10% more of his shots than Fernandez, and given that threes are Fernandez's special of the day - Fernandez, on average, made only 6% more of his threes than Chandler last season. On Dec 7th, against Portland, for example - Chandler shot better than 55% and made 2/2 threes. But, don't let stats get in the way....
Re: Rudy For Wilson Chandler? A respectful 48% was helped primarily be getting to the basket. Stats are great, if you know how to use them. Assuming someone is a good shooter because they have a good FG% is NOT a good way to use stats. Unless you would argue against someone who said Shaq was a poor shooter, because he has a high FG%.
Re: Rudy For Wilson Chandler? This team needs players that can get to the hoop badly. I consider it a plus since this roster is stacked with guys scared to drive into the paint (I'm looking at you LMA). If his ankle is healed, I'd do this trade in a second.
Re: Rudy For Wilson Chandler? Stats always have value. Always. A blanket statement of "they have a good fg% is NOT a good way to use stats" is misleading. I would agree with you in some scenarios. In this case, a poster was basically saying Chandler has no jumper. This is false and fg% proves it. If we are dumping Rudy for someone who DOES get to the basket, rebounds and has some inside game - GO CHO.
