Promoter Don King turns 79 today, and even at this advanced age is still showing that he’s the best in the boxing business. King may be a key person in putting together the fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao next year. If so, King will succeed where other promoters from Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions have failed in the past. King has promoted a number of boxing’s biggest stars from fighters like Muhammad Ali to Mike Tyson. King has a quality of staying calm, not holding grudges and a willingness to work in setting up fights outside of his own stable of fighters.
