Spain played Lithuania yesterday (Friday) and Rudy had some good non-standing-in-the-corner-waiting-for-a-three plays. And Nate was sitting right in the front row. (See 5:30 in the first half): First half Second half
I just finished watching the 1st half. I'm not sure Rudy showed off for Nate that much (at least, according to the clip). I'm watching the 2nd half now.
I just finished watching the 2nd half. It showed maybe 3 plays that Rudy was involved in. He didn't make any case (at least, form the high lights) for him earning playing time.
Wow. Wiiiiiiiiiide open driving lanes, zero defense, flopping... All the things we've come to love about euro ball.
Hmmm ... I guess he looked OK, but he was doing the exact same things with his dribble against NBA players and it just doesn't work against wings that play an aggressive ball-pressuring style of man to man defense.
At 5:30 into the tape (3:40 left in the 1st quarter), Rudy has dominated the game so far. The US coaching staff is shown scouting the game, and the commentators laugh uproariously at Nate for a long time.
I hope he gets traded to NY. I'm very curious to see if Rudy blossoms in the NBA under a coach who doesn't care about defense.
You know what though. I'm pretty sure Mike D'Antoni owes most of his career success to Steve Nash. There seems to be this myth that once a player gets traded to a team that he coaches that that player will suddenly blossom into big time offensive performer.
That's exactly what I'm saying. Rudy thinks he'd fit in that system, but in reality he probably won't. I'm curious if he will blossom or not. The only way that question gets answered if he does get traded there.
