If true I'd be for it. Of course you still need to know if the player is down or not when the ball went over, but if they had a light on each end of the goal line that went off when it passed it should help to confirm if the player was down or not when the ball touch the goal. link
This would be pretty cool to have, but I am unsure about how easy of a technology this will be to create.
Watching PTI they were talking like it'll be used for 1st downs and spotting the ball as well. Makes sense.
Let them waste their money, it is only going to help us. What I think is bad for the sport is 18 game seasons, just more dilution of the game.
Since they will be dropping the same amount of preseason games as they are adding regular season games it just means more games that count which I'm all for. Everyone I've read coaches and players complain how long the preseason is anyway.
Right let's make the playoffs less interesting and shorten the careers of everyone, for the sake of cutting down the pre-season... This is football not golf. Why don't you cut the preseason in half and keep it at 16 games? It isn't about the preseason, the NFL just wants to make money. They don't care about improving the sport. Players complain about possibly getting injured in the preseason all the time. Now we're going to increase those cries significantly. Well you haven't watched enough of this topic then. Some of the sport analyst goofs on ESPN made a good point, they had 10-30 surgeries in their decade long NFL career. How do you think this is good for the game long-term? You're messing with the most exciting part of the year. Brady type of injuries, concussions, additional surgeries, relying on depth instead of top-heavy talent. Every few or so games players have to get serious medical treatment or surgery, even among the most durable players.
I'm much rather go/watch games that count rather than games that don't. Of course they could just cut down the preseason games as you said, but that's not going to happen.
I personally don't see the problem with more games "diluting" the sport... Kindly explain? The computer chip in ball thing would presumably just be making the gaps between plays less, because they have access to replays surely... it might cause less challenges but I really don't see the point, since the officials usually get it right anyway... except that Redskins TD against Buffalo last week, although it seemed to be just me that didn't think that was over...
More regular season games means less stars in the playoffs, and shorter careers in general. Surgeries, serious medical treatment. Basically if you're a good player shave a year off your career, or two if you play as long as the all-time greats. In Steve Young's second to last season he was pretty amazing, Favre of course, etc. Running backs are screwed, there's a certain threshold in carries they should be cautious of.
