<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (AirBlaze @ May 27 2006, 12:54 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>But who are you to call that pathetic? At least they believe in Christianity, or any religon for that matter. [IMG]</div>Believing in religion makes people superior now?Anyway, yeah. I think most Christians are "posers," so to speak. Most of them have their faith handed down to them, just like their political views, what college they want to go to, blah blah blah. The point is, they are told why they should believe in something as youths. Maybe not even why, but usually just that they should. My personal problem was that I felt that the only reliable source of Christian doctrine is the Bible. Oh sure, there's other texts out there, but I wouldn't put any faith in them. Some people see the Bible as a "spiritual guide," filled with allegories, figures of speech, and metaphors to convey some sort of story. I just can't see how someone can put their faith in something like that. When I was a Christian, I certainly had faith that the Bible was true. (I didn't believe that the Bible was true only because it said so, by the way.) For some reason, it irks me when a person quotes a Bible verse in their AIM profile and puts something about getting wasted in their away message. I don't know, certainly people will disagree with me.

I think if you are atheist you should read religious books then decide, maybe not the bible and stuff but books about the bible (to save time) - as long as you get the theoretical point of view of the religion

If you are atheist then you have decided. You don't believe in a god and thats fine. If atheists should read religious books and then decide then so should everyone.

i'm a christian and i believe in god. i go to church every sunday and i know the history behind chrisianity. Jesus died on the cross for our sins and rose up from the dead. and for a person to call us posers i take offense to that. i don't think it's fair for you, BCB, to call christians posers. that's just not right.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (BCB @ May 28 2006, 09:54 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>I'm athiest and never read the bible...why should I? He was pointing out that alot people call themselves christians, yet don't go to chuch very often and don't really know that much about their religion.

Just because you don't go to church doesn't mean you aren't religious. Haven't you ever heard the quote from the Bible, "God does not dwell in man-man structures" (something like that)?

I don't go to church but I'm a Christian and know more than many of the people I know who do go to church. I think I'm turning into one of those guys that has faith in God but no faith in the church. Really I just think the whole denomination crap is stupid.

Re: Are American 'Christians' a bunch of posers?

Well, I looked into it, and it's more of a "God can't be contained by something he made" thing rather than a "Don't go to church" thing.if you care

Re: Are American 'Christians' a bunch of posers?

In reality, i would say a good majority of Americans who say they are Christians aren't. When told the real meaning of being a Christian, they say, "Oh, well i guess i'm not then...". It's quite upsetting when you think about it. Having so many people claim to be Christians when they truely aren't, brings sadness to the religion. I, for one, am a Christian and attend church weekly. So there are actual American Christians out there, just not really as many as there claim to be. [IMG]

I think the term "Christian" has become more to desribe being white American than anything else.

Going to Church doesn't mean anything.
