I couldn't agree more strongly with the contention of the author: http://pajamasmedia.com/zombie/2010...doom-for-americas-schoolkids/?singlepage=true We'll see if he delivers on the promise of his introduction.
The problem is that both sides, taken literally, are equally wrong and yet there is no middle ground. When my wife was teaching 4th graders she came home with Oregon State mandated material to teach children that loggers were evil people and the cutting of a single tree was a crime... And there was the other social garbage. They had to eliminate spelling, grammer and one other subject to teach the PC stuff. By the same token, I believe in separation of Church & State in public schools. That doesn't mean a public school must avoid all points of religion- only that religion in a public school should be taught in a neutral way. It's a shame they can't find common ground.
"On the left we have radical academia, the neo-Marxist educational theorists, and the teachers’ unions: their progressive blueprint, which they’ve been incrementally yet successfully implementing for over three decades by now, is to inculcate in students a “social justice” mental framework focusing on multiculturalism, an absence of competition, and a general loathing for America and distrust of traditional American values." lol
yeah, logging is a sticky situation. Some logging is okay and good, but that is a lot more work than most companies want to do. The problem with teaching religion in public schools in a neutral way, is where do you draw the line? Do you teach scientology? Do you teach Wiccan? Do you teach Shinto? Do you teach Catholicism as christianity and mormons?
