This is a fascinating game tonight between Boise St and Virginia Tech. It splits the BCS Buster fans from the rest. I think I land on "the rest." As much as I do think the BCS isn't a perfect way to dictate a champion, I think it's ridiculous for Boise St to be considered a top 5 team. For me it boils down to one thing - if Boise St played in the PAC 10, or god forbid the SEC, there's no way in hell they would ever run the table. The week to week pounding they would take from BCS conference teams would take it's toll on Boise St and they wouldn't be in the conversation come seasons end.

With that said, when Boise St plays in a BCS game, I root for them, because it's a great story. But point being, they would not be in that BCS game if they played in a BCS conference.

What side of argument do you stand?

With a win today, the National Championship game could be determined.

    TCU v Boise State

It's week one of college football, and it all can be determined today.

I think any method of determining who should be in bowl games (or playoff games, if that format were ever adopted) is going to be incredibly flawed, since there are so many teams and it's impossible to create balanced schedules. On the one hand, I do agree with you that playing in a tough conference means a lot from a strength of schedule standpoint and even how it grinds on you. On the other hand, a legitimately excellent team could arise in a weak conference and it would be unfair to disqualify it simply because it played in a weak conference and therefore doesn't have a great strength of scedule.

Stoked for the game. About to start. I'll actually be conflicted about who to root for. It's so god damn hard for me not to root for the under dog. VT's uni's are fucking hot! That's one of those new Nike "combat" unis.

EDIT: I still consider Boise to be the under dog in this game.

Boise State looks pretty for real. They're blowing VaTech up on the lines.

17-0 late first quarter. Boise State is going to blow them out.

Boise State definitely deserves their ranking. They have a GREAT team this year. 19 starters returning from a 14-0 team.

    It's getting late early. ;)

I agree, things could turn around. But for that first quarter, it looked like a top team playing an unranked team.

The TCU game was a lot of fun actually. I had a great time down there. We lost, but we were in it and we'll get better.

Boise St definitely looks like the better team. Couldn't agree more. But that was never my point. My point was that Boise St could never run the table in a BCS conference, and I stand by that.

Well, we'll never know. I think Boise State is as good as any team in the country this year.

Boise State's secondary is getting a little exposed. They've had good coverage on a couple of plays, but most plays in which the defensive line doesn't get quick pressure, there's a receiver wide open. The Boise State run defense has been dominant.
