Which player had the best rookie season of all time? Wilt Chamberlain is by far the best rookie in history. He is the only player to win the MVP and Rookie of the Year in the same season besides Wes Unseld. He averaged 38 ppg and 27 rpg as a rookie!!!!!

I still don't buy those numbers, because he was going up against inferioir competition.I'll take Magic Johnson, a guy who got nubmers, but more importantly, led his team to an NBA Finals victory. The man was spectacualr, and did everything for his team that year

Jabbar's name stands out to me. All around rookie, he had the whole package. And from then on out all he did was improve.

I think they have all had superb rookie seasons, but just going on what i know and not looking anything up, Magic's rookie season stands out to me. I know i wasnt alive at the time, but from what i've seen on Classic, it was just incredible. Not the best rookie season from my lifetime (87-06) has to be LeBron or d-wade's D-wade was just incredible in those playoffs his rookie season.

Although he did have the height advantage it's still ridiculous stats.

If your going by pure numbers it's Wilt...but for him it was like a HS Senior vs. the Elementary Wheelchair basketball team.

In his rookie year, I read the average post player was something like 6'5. A 7'0 player going up against a 6.5 player, I damn well hope you get 40 and 30

Gotta be Wilt. Despite what you say about inferior competition, has anybody else ever averaged 38 points and 27 rebounds? NO. And Wilt did that as a rookie. He averaged 29 points and 29 rebounds against Bill Russell. BILL RUSSELL!!!!! Wilt was hardcore.

Wes Unseld had a great rookie season. I think he averaged something like 17 rpg, and played great defense. He also led his team to a 1st seed as a rookie, so he took home ROY and MVP.Im not going to count Wilt, because he is obviously the winner. How about Magic and Michael Jordan as well? Magic led the Lakers to a championship in his rookie year after Jabbar got injured. I think he got like 40+ points, 15+ rebounds, and like 7 assists playing Center. I think thats how he got the nickname Magic because he had to play Center, and he was a skinny 6"8 or "9 player. Also Michael. 28 ppg, 6 rpg, 6 apg. Unbeliavable, especially in a mid 80's era. There are definately more. I just named a couple of them.

I'm going to say Magic. He won the title, and took home Finals MVP in his rookie year. And as Lakaboy said, Finals MVP is a greater achievement than Regular Season MVP.

Not really. Finals MVP is the best performance out of two teams, and Regular Season MVP is the best performance out of every player in the League. Regular season MVP was more impressive back then in my books.

I don't think so. It's more impressive these days. More competition these days. Harder to win it over Lebron, Nash, Dirk etc.

First off, Joe Dumars was never a contender for MVP. Secondly, I thought you were talking about the 70's. Older school.
