Results of Bledsoe probe expected this week

The findings of an investigation into the high school grades of former University of Kentucky player Eric Bledsoe are expected this week, a public-school official in Birmingham, Ala., said last week.

Afrika Parchman, an attorney for the Birmingham Board of Education, said last week that the findings of a law firm's investigation into Bledsoe's high school academics — expected last week — have been delayed and are likely to be made public this week.

A New York Times story in May called into question Bledsoe's academic record at Hayes and Parker high schools in Birmingham.

The point guard played at UK last season and now is a rookie with the NBA's Los Angeles Clippers.

The Birmingham News reported that NCAA investigators visited Birmingham in February to ask questions about Bledsoe's academics and residency in high school.

The Alabama High School Athletic Association requested an investigation into Bledsoe's record, according to a Birmingham News report.

Bledsoe, who turned pro after his freshman season and was drafted 18th overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder and then traded to the Los Angeles Clippers, received an A in Algebra 3 in two sessions of night school, according to his four-year transcript at Birmingham's Hayes High School. But a grade report obtained by the newspaper had a C down for both sessions, grades that would not have allowed Bledsoe to meet NCAA admissions guidelines.

Bledsoe ended high school with a 2.5 GPA in 16 core classes, a mark good enough to make it into Kentucky when coupled with his reported 69 on the ACT. But Bledsoe would have had a core GPA of 2.373 had he gotten a C's in Algebra 3, a GPA that would have put him below NCAA benchmarks with his ACT score.

The NCAA visited Hayes High earlier this year, but the school district has refused to work with college sports' governing body. The district hired an outside law firm at the request of the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) in investigating the matter.
