Moore era begins with a Giant thud

    The Matt Moore era began much like Jake Delhomme's final season with the Carolina Panthers started - with the quarterback battered, beaten and his team buried under a mound of turnovers.

    Moore's first opening-game start Sunday against the New York Giants produced one touchdown and a number of question marks. The most pressing: Whether Moore will be available for next week's game against Tampa Bay.

    Moore left with about two minutes left in the Panthers' 31-18 loss after getting blind-sided by Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora to end what had been a painful day.

    Moore was taken to a local hospital after the game. Coach John Fox said Moore suffered a concussion on his final play.
