I don't believe this was Ed's doing. Also, I think irrational decisions are just a personal style, nothing to do with grand plans, but Ed can correct me on that if I'm wrong. TomBoerwinkle#1 was an admin on the site that Denny Crane was admin on as well, previously. Since Denny owns this site, it's up to him who staffs it and he liked the cut of Boerwinkle's jib from past working experience. It's like Bill Parcells (former NFL head coach) bringing in his favourite players on each new team he coached.
To be brutally honest... We're hoping that by bringing in people who have experience building and running larger sites than S2 currently is, we can build up more forums like this awesome Blazers one.
He is new to the site. We are looking to expand our borders and we needed a commissioner to lead the NBA forum.
Its a legitimate question. Until this past week, I had barely 50 posts on this site and not everyone knows me from elsewhere. I appreciate the support expressed from those who do know me. I was an administrator/owner at Basketballboards.net (now basketballforums.com) from 2002-2007 or so. Truebluefan and I were pretty much the constants during that time as owner/admins. MikeDc and Denny Crane (then DaBullz) got their first mod offers there from me. First Denny and then Mike (through some back and forth/on again off again moves) eventually became owners there as well. I've been online friends with Minstrel forever and with other people on this site, current and past -- Petey, for instance. I remember Ed O. from way back. Also, internet posting legends like The Rifleman. And former bbb admin/Blazers fan/ESPN producer Gym Rat. And Bulls insider/Chicago Tribune blogger Doug Thonus. And stats guru Dan Rosenbaum. Its been a great ride. When I left BBB I was a moderator and Global moderator at RealGm for a number of years and recently left there due to some internal conflict. Along with TrueBluefan, MikeDc, Denny and our other partners, we turned bbb.net from a little baby site with a couple of hundred posts into a 5 million plus post site in just a few years. I'm proud of that accomplishment and it paid off pretty well when we sold the site to investors -- but the boards suffered at the hand of the new ownership, IMO. My experiences at RealGm gave me some insight to helping run a mega-size site, even though I never got a chance to do it at an admin level. I've seen things around me come a long way from when one of our BBB business partners put the server costs on his credit card every month because our ad revenues didn't cover expenses. Long after he'd stepped down from active ownership, I was more than glad when we were able to send him a check to pay him back those expenses, plus a little something. When I left RealGm, Truebluefan, followed by Denny Crane and MikeDc approached me about helping out here. I was flattered to know they respected my abilities. I had a great phone conversation with Denny. Anyway, I do understand people questioning who I am since my presence here has been very light but I hope for your patience and understanding. I do my best to help boards grow and have a decent track record. And I've made a lot of really good friends along the way.
Why did you remind me about Petey? I miss that guy. I do have one question though. Assuming we get this site active and one of the top sports forums on the web, will you all be sticking around or will your be going on to your next test?
