Josh Johnson's season with the Florida Marlins is over.

The Marlins said Monday they are shutting down their ace right-hander, who has been bothered by back discomfort for several days.

Johnson halted a bullpen session last week because of the back issues and hasn't pitched in a game since Sept. 4. Johnson also had his shoulder examined last week.
