Hey, that's nothing new. That's how Hitler came into power.

Maybe that's where Duds got the idea he could win simply off the failure of others, too.

When you vote for someone on the assumption that they couldn't be worse than the last guy, they invariably are.

    Much worse.

I don't get the connection. Do you think Kitz's campaign manager was somehow involved in Neil sleeping with a 14 year old in the 1970s?
Don't you think it's possible that she didn't condone or even know about his prior sexual behavior?
Is everyone who works for someone else tainted with whatever crimes the boss may commit?
Is guilt by association really a good way to pick a governor?

I don't really know you Barfo but I respect the hell out of you. You're pretty sharp and very knowledgeable so this will be interesting to get your perspective. You from around Portland? Oregon? If you are do you remember Phil Stanford when he was with the Oregonian and the Michael Franke murder?

Hey, thanks, and same back at ya....

Lived in Oregon all of my life, except for 10 years in the middle. Been back in Portland for 15 years now.

I remember Phil Sanford, and remembered the name Michael Franke, but had to remind my self via the Google who he was.

I'm not going to discount the possibility that whatever happened to Franke was ordered from on high, but it seems there's no proof of that?

I'm not much on conspiracy theories in general. Since Franke had some power we do have to consider the possibility that he was killed because of that, but we also have to consider that he may have been sleeping with someone's wife, or he didn't pay a debt, or he just generally pissed someone off enough to kill him.

I don't see enough evidence here to conclude one way or another, much less to assign guilt for the murder to Kitzhaber because his campaign manager once worked for someone who possibly might have ordered Franke's death.

The only voting I'll be doing for Dudley will be on the All-Star ballot in the "write-in" section. Oh wait.... this isn't 1995.

I'm voting Dudley we already had 8 years of failed Kitzhaber and 8 years of the current Governor. You are right this state needs a change.

Why not? If we can elect a president who was a "community" organizer with no experience managing anything, I don't see why we can't elect Dudley to run Oregon.

I've heard liberals say that abortion should be legal but "rare." Isn't that exactly what Dudley seems to want to accomplish? As for "abstinence-only," it makes a hell of a lot of sense. In fact, it's the most sensible solution to teen pregnancy I can think of. Condoms, as we all know, don't always work, and kids aren't always going to use them anyway. The only surefire way to keep from getting pregnant is to not have sex. I realize this kind of logical thinking doesn't make sense to liberals, but that's their problem.

Man, you know your governor candidates are shit when people would even think about voting Kitzhaber back in.

I'll be voting for Dudley though as he doesn't seem as retarded as the other Republicans in this state and would be something new.

I don't think Goldsmidt ordered the hit but because of the skeletons in his closet I think he was compromised and prevented from calling for a proper investigation. My problem with our current state leaders having any connection to this is no one spoke out.

What you suggest is plausible - that Goldschmidt was afraid to follow up because of his own problems. But that doesn't automatically taint everyone else. Since there are so many mysteries remaining, it seems logical to conclude that most people in Salem didn't/don't know the truth about what happened and weren't in any position to reveal said truth.

It's a bit like voting against Republicans because of Nixon, isn't it?

We should do everything we can to not advance our economy or technology and try to keep all manual and trivial labor here in the USA! I sure am glad we didn't advance farming techniques so that people didn't lose jobs and everybody needed to run their own farm in order to eat.

No way I trust anyone who buys a house out of state to avoid paying Oregon taxes. Typical slimeball.

Damn right. People who make intelligent, legal financial decisions have no business running the state of Oregon!

Well, actually there's some evidence that what he did wasn't legal, in that some say he kept living in Oregon but claimed WA residency.

The "evidence" to that effect that I've seen publicized is consistent with someone who maintains two residences but lives at one (north of the river) the majority of the time. As long as his primary residence was in Washington, there was nothing wrong with him having clothes in the closets, food in the fridge, and a practice hoop at the Oregon house, thereby facilitating periodic usage. In fact, I'd say it makes perfect sense.

that's the same logic suicide victims use. "I'm not happy in this life, maybe there's another one."
