I mean this sincerely, do you think our technology is advancing by jobs moving over seas, or am i missing a connection?
It's also consistent with someone who lives primarily in Oregon and maintains a residence in WA as a tax dodge. barfo
We don't know that though. They never outlined whether there was food in the fridge, clothes in the closet, and a practice hoop at his Washington residence, and this happened so long ago that we will never know the truth. But really, I can't believe this is even a point of contention. Apparently Sam Adams can have sex with under age boys and hand out government jobs like party favors to cover his tracks, but Chris Dudley can't move to Washington to avoid Oregon taxes. The difference? One is a Republican, the other is a Democrat...
Sam Adams isn't running right now, Chris Dudley is, that's the difference. Should he run again, I think Sam's escapades would be fair game for discussion. And for that matter, they are now - just that there is less urgency about discussing them since there isn't a vote coming up. You are quite right, though, that nobody will ever know for sure about whether Duds was cheating on his taxes. barfo
I'm saying that keeping unskilled labor jobs in the US just for the sake of keeping jobs in the US is stupid. Advancing technology is the right way to go, even if it appears to take the place of jobs or appears to move unskilled labor jobs to China in the near term. The farming example was about how if we had wanted to keep technology out of farming so that jobs weren't lost, we all would be living on our own farms trying to feed ourselves. That probably isn't the best for advancing an economy.
You are right that Adams isn't running, but the voters of Portland has a chance to remove him from office after his transgressions were uncovered and they chose not to do so.
I've seen his house in Lacamas. It was way to nice for someone who would be looking to save a few bucks by living North of the river. He could of bought a house for $500,000 or something. The house he lived in was more like $2 mil.
Conversely, another term with Kitz would be a slow death, business as usual for the state with lackluster leadership
The similarities? Both are liars. Both are only interested in serving their own personal agenda. Neither one is in any way qualified for public service, and both would be in prison right now if they had no powerful connections. And this is the best reason anyone can come up with for voting for a lying, afraid-to-debate, no experience, never even voted before, tax-dodging dick from Connecticut. Talk about self-destructive behavior.
I'm not voting for him. I do, however, think it's plain stupid to use alleged tax evasion based on circumstantial evidence as the primary reason NOT to vote for someone.... THAT'S self-destructive behavior.
Kitz has proven he is a very poor governor. His "I haven't met a tax I didn't love" attitude is not what the state needs right now. It's not higher taxes that will cure the state's problems. Face it, he's a loser as gov and takes his marching orders from the SIU. To me, Dudley isn't much of a candidate either. I agree with barfo (if it was he that said it) that so far all Dudley has done is hash over the standard GOP line. The reason I'd vote for Dudley is that it makes no sense to make the same old mistake with Kitzy. At least if Dudley makes a mistake, it will be a new one. I'm willing to accept change and try a different approach. We know the other approach is a failure before it starts.
January 29, 1989 — Cavs center Chris Dudley stepped to the free throw line and did something no one in the NBA had ever done. And that wasn't a good thing. Dudley, a celebrated defender, rebounder and shot-blocker, was a somewhat below-average free throw shooter. OK, he was a somewhat awful free throw shooter, with a career average of 45.8 percent, which is better than Ben Wallace but worse than Shaq. But in a January game against the Washington Bullets, he took poor free throw shooting to a new level. Dudley got fouled, stepped to the line and missed both shots. NBD. But the ref called a lane violation on a Bullets guard, so Dudley shot a third. Which he missed. Another lane violation (this one by Bullets center Dave Feitl) brought another attempt and another miss (that's four for those counting at home). Amazingly, Feitl was called for another lane violation. And amazingly, Dudley missed his fifth and final (of the series) free throw attempt, becoming the first player to miss five free throws in one trip.
Yes! We covered a lot of territory, from Prineville to Mt. Hood to the Gorge to Portland to Odell Lake and Crater Lake. Here's a picture of us at Crown Point.
