I learned more than I wanted to know about heroin and meth while serving as a jury member on a murder trial... including how much of the areas crime is linked to it. My house was broken into over labor day weekend... someone getting money for meth no doubt.
Most the large scale heroin dealers in the Portland area are illegal aliens living out in Hillsboro and Beaverton.
From what I heard, Big Pharma made the OxyContins Tamper proof, so all those sad people abusing those pills are turning to heroin instead of rehab.
Portland has had a bad heroin problem since the mid-90's as far as I know. One of my best friends got hooked & he's a total loser junkie still 12 years later. You could walk down to Burnside and pick up a balloon of dope, cross the street to the mission where they gave out clean needles, and shoot up on the water front under the bridge. So convenient!
Nearly impossible to crush or inject them. You can find lots of articles about this online. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdEcmtpfYe0
It might seem like I like to smack you around, but that's junk. It's just horse-play, like in when we were in Scagway, AK. barfo
Here are the two best songs about heroin. And yes, it has been a huge problem here for a long time. My old drummer got really into it. Sold his drums, his 4,000 dollar marimbas, lost his everything. He went back to southern Oregon and got his life together. He is living back in Portland now and has a wife and has been clean ever since. On the other hand, my dad is dying from hepatitis C from his Herion use as a teenager. It is a hell of a drug
What about Voodoo by Godsmack? Its really sad though, a few friends of mine that I went to high school with got caught up with the oxycontin and eventually heroin. I cut them off as a friend when all they would think about was getting their next pill. I tried Oxycontin once, didn't understand the appeal so I never did it again. My younger brother says that his generation is rampant with pill poppers.
