Rudy still a possibility, so is Scalabrine!

    Sam Smith:

Would Michal Finley or Brian Scalabrine count as the good shooter the bulls need?

Either one would be great if we can pull them out of the clearance bin rather than pay retail.

I still think the Bulls will stand pat with the roster spot and see what's shaking around the trade deadline.

I don't think Scalabrine should be mentioned in the same sentence as Rudy. Rudy's like, a potentially difference-making player.

I still think I'd hold out on dealing for Rudy while the Nuggets mull over what they want to do with Carmelo. That being said, I think Smith is right on the money when he finally tries and describes a winning deal for Melo (Favors, Murphy and change) that works for seemingly everyone. Though if Terrence Williams is a "stud", the term must have been redefined lately.

Yikes, I almost started editing TomBoerwinkle's post!

Just to clarify, you'd like to wait because that first rounder might be worth something to somebody with a special somebody that they want to get rid of?

Personally, I think the odds are not great, and I'd like to see them add Rudy and have him work with the team from the beginning.

They'll have an abundance of pretty good assets on relatively short term contracts to work with after Dec 15th or so, right?

Hopefully the Bulls can get Rudy.

But how come the Celtics haven't re-signed Scalabrine? He seemed like a good team guy, and the fans seemed to really like him.

It happens, even to long time mods. I've edited and deleted posts and threads by accident plenty of times. MikeDc deleted a thread of mine just a couple of days ago -- but was able to recover it with his magical admin powers.

Take your time. Some of your new permissions will take a little getting used to.

It's going pretty well. Just getting into the real stuff fun stuff, as they make you take a bunch of general eds and fundamental classes at the beginning. I'm getting pretty far into it, only 15 credits of Journalism left after this semester I think. I'm starting at KCTV, which is the Kansas City CBS affiliate next month, and I'll be expected to do a game story and feature story every week, so I will be covering the Missouri Tigers football/basketball games for the most part. That will be a lot of fun. They'll be giving me an all sports media pass, so I can get into any sporting event at the school for free...to go report of course. This should be fun, as it'll be the first sports reporting I'll get to do, in comparison to general community type stories. I think the most exciting part will be to be so close on the sidelines to take pictures.

So all is going good with the major. The fun will start when I have to go look for a job in a little less than two years, and try to get on the right track to move up the career ladder.

I am not sure. He made a great team mascot.

It might be him that wants to leave. He is good enough to play, and he knows he won't do much of that here.

I'm all in for Brian Scalabrine. He'll be the best awkward bench warmer we've had since Eric Piatkowski.

We've got a new Piatkowski. His name is Korver.

Count me in about wanting Rudy first.

Scalabrine, could give us some threes once in a while, but as many of you said, prefer Rudy.

If all Korver does is become the next Polish Rifle I will be very disappointed. He's no franchise savior but I think he's better than that.

    ----

As to the rest, -- of course I agree Rudy before Brian, all other things being equal -- but I think Portland is going to continue to cling to Rudy and hope someone else panics and overpays for him. I'd rather get Scalabrine without giving up significant assets than get Rudy and pay through the nose with players and picks we otherwise need moving forward.

But by all means, if you can get Fernandez or Scalabrine, its a no brainer to deal with Portland and not Boston. If the deals aren't equal, you have to do a creful cost/benefit analysis, not just with money but with talent and the value of picks that will keep a franchise growing.

    Piatkowski was a 6'7" slow white guy with a career 7.5PPG average and .399 3pt shooting %.

    Korver is a 6'7" slow white guy with a career 9.9PPG average and .431 3pt shooting %.

What more, exactly, do you expect from Korver?

I expect Korver to be 29 when the season starts. I expected Pike to be 34 when his first season with the Bulls started.

I think Pritchard left everyone with a bad taste of the Blazers. I could see teams just refusing to really work on giving the Blazers anything of great value, just because they're the Blazers.

I also wouldn't mind signing Scalabrine, even if we were to get Rudy also. He would be a good chemistry guy, and he fits kind of a different role than Rudy, as he is more of a big man than Rudy is.

Steve Novak might be the guy to get instead. Novak is a lot better shooter than Scalabrine. But Novak is a small foward, while you can play Scalabrine at power forward, and still be fine defensively, while Novak is going to get torched on that end of the floor.

I've been wondering if it's harder for a team like the Blazers to sell trades to their fan base than teams that operate in big markets. I love the energy and knowledge of Blazers posters. But they do seem to overrate their players more than any other fan base. I think you could even say Blazer's posters are unique in how much they like their rosters, whichever players are part of them.

It's dangerous to assume that posters are reflective of the sentiments of other fans, season ticket holders and the like. If I were to gauge which fan base has the most realistic view of their rosters it would probably be the Knicks. I don't think Bulls fans are bad on the whole either. I wonder if there is something to big market fans, who have many teams to follow, being more realistic in their view of player value, assuming consistency in knowledge of the game.

That would make it harder for a GM on the Blazers to make any trades, even ones for equal value that would improve the team.
