Don't be. Watch the gameplay videos for NBA Elite 11 and those should turn you off. The game looks hideous in motion. The NBA 2K11 demo however, is fantastic. The game is gorgeous in motion, the player models look great, etc. NBA Elite 11, from everything I've read, sounds like it might be taking a couple steps back after what was a really solid game last year.

really? i've been hearing they've changed up the motion control of the game and the physics is superior to that of NBA 2K11. Hmm, are IGN's rating out yet?

My friend at EA has played elite and says it's 100x better than it ever was.

Nope, not yet. I've only watched a few videos on OperationSports and the game, to me, looked like trash, especially after playing the 2K11 demo.

Woord. I heard the game is completely revamped and after hearing about this, 2K is planning to do the same with it's two player physics (and animations) next year. That should be a sign that EA has finally made strides with basketball. It's about time they got off their complacent asses and made a decent basketball game.

Ima download the demos for both sometime next week to give reviews.

The only reason why I'm buying NBA Elite is because you need to buy it in order to download NBA Jam. Still getting NBA 2k11 for my real basketball game. I wonder how much I can return NBA Elite to Gamestop on release day for without the Jam code.

To me, there's no question which one I'm getting after watching gameplay videos of each. Elite just doesn't look good in motion, at all.

That's the first I've seen of Elite, and to me it looks better than 2k.

Meh, play 2K. The game looks great in motion, the player models are incredible, and I've heard nothing but good things about it so far. Elite, on the other hand, I haven't heard much good about. I recall reading on OS that one of the editors felt like the franchise had taken a step back this year. We'll see though. Elite could surprise me, but I'm not really counting on it.

And FWIW, you guys are the first people I've heard say that it looks good.

go on IGN boards bro, they love it there. I don't know, I just want to keep an open mind to both games seeing as how though 2K was EASILY better than Live last year, 2K10 wasn't all too much better than 2K9.

I wanna see a quantam leap in advancements!

I'm in the process of downloading the demo right now for it, and I'm anxious to see how it plays. However, after reading this and hearing that it's taken steps backwards from last year makes me think that I'm going to end up being right about NBA 2K11 being the superior game and what will likely end up being my choice for an NBA game once again.

    Impressions:

I like the dribbling and shooting controls, both seem to work fine. There's obviously a bit of a learning curve, and the so-called "skill" based shooting isn't the most forgiving thing, even on the lower difficulty. It'd definitely take some time to get used to.

Free throws, on the other hand, appeared to be cake. I went like, 9/10 in the demo. It's all a matter of pushing the joystick straight and releasing it at a decent time. I though you had to release it in the green area at the top but I was proven wrong when I made a FT with Artest outside of that zone.

This brings me to passing. You basically have to use the icon passing in the game. Using the combination of the RT and joystick (360) is an AWFUL choice. The passes don't always go to where you want, and hell, it sometimes doesn't work. It also has a bad tendency to work when you don't want it to. There were a couple times where I accidentally hit the RT when I was about to attempt a shot and ended up passing it off instead. Slightly frustrating, but that issue is just a matter of getting used to the control scheme.

The game is UGLY. Live looked pretty good last year...this game doesn't even look as good as that. Unless you're up close, the player models are not that good, and in motion they look even worse (to me, they also mostly look the same, as it was almost difficult to figure who was who sometimes without looking at the numbers on the jersey). The rebounding animations are also really choppy and blah looking. The game also seems to lack signature shots and style. While it might seem somewhat of a slight stab, keep in mind 2K has had them since 2K6, and for whatever reason, it seems Elite, 5 years later, doesn't. It takes away from the authenticity of the game, at least to me.

The demo AI also sucked. I had Boston down 6 with about 8 seconds left and they decided they wanted to work it inside to JO instead of going for the trey. They also ate too much clock in crunch time too.

For me, it's not impressive at all. There's a good amount of content in here, especially considering it's a demo, but it's just not that good. NBA 2K11 is by far the better that I've played so far. The controls work better, the game looks better, the AI is better...it's just better. There's a chance the game could end up being solid, since this is just a demo build, but I'm not about to hold my breath. Playing this demo all but sealed my choice of getting 2K11 this year, it seems the only reason I'd have to get Elite is to get NBA Jam that comes with it.

I downloaded it, too. I like the controls. Once you get used to them, I think they will be great. Like Moo says, the graphics are not perfect, but I thought the gameplay was pretty good. I've never been a fan of 2k, and Live has been garbage for a little while, so this might be the first NBA game I buy in a couple years.

I actually thought this was your impression on 2K11.
