A few months ago I was readin the Trash Talk in that months issue of SLAM. Well it was for the Kobe cover for his 81 point game. He was saying how he felt Michael Jordan's 63 points was much more impressive than Kobe's 81. Here are his arguements why. Im curious if you guys agree with this like I do.- Kobe Bryant's 81 points was against the Toronto Raptors one of the worst teams in the league in a regular season game. Michael Jordan's 63 points were against the Boston Celtics who were at the time the team to beat in a playoff game. - Michael Jordan scored his 63 points when the game was dominated by big men and not guards like it is now.- Now a days if you barely touch Kobe it's a foul. A big part of Kobe's 81 points was from the foul line. Michael Jordan scored his 63 back when the game was a lot more physical and you could get away with more contact. These were his main arguements. I actually agreed w/ what the person had to say and I was curious of how you guys would think of his opinion

I agree with those points 100%... I'm not trying to take anything away from Kobe's 81 points, because that was an incredible accomplishment and an incredible game to watch, but when I take everything into account (situation, etc.), I don't see how Kobe's 81 was better. Yeah, it was 18 points more, but MJ's was during the playoffs, against the CELTICS.MJs 63 was more impressive to me than Kobe's 81, but Kobe's 81 was spectacular.I can't wait for all the Kobe fans to start bashing this...

I'm a DIE HARD Kobe Fan.. But like you guys stated the guy who wrote to Slam was 100% right. But still 81 points regardless is impressive no matter who you play its still the NBA Pro's.. right?

If you've ever seen the game where Jordan scored 63, the guy they had defending him couldnt have been playing much better D then Jalen Rose was. I've seen that entire game and it was one of the worst defensive games i've ever seen, also you can argue Jordan had it easily, because back then big men didnt close the lanes as well and most guards played along the lines that Tony Parker does now, including Jordan. So yes, Kobe's 81 point game was more impressive.

Well, there is something to be said about it being double OT and a loss for the Bulls. Not really going to compare them because it'll probably just turn into the traditional Kobe vs. Jordan thread.

But for Jordan, it was in the Boston Garden on the road in a CRUCIAL playoff game. But still Kobe wins. [IMG]

I am going to go with Jordans. Dont get me wrong Kobe did something un human but heres why I feel this way.The game when Jordan hit 63 was CLUTCH. It was not a blowout at all. every shot was a big one down the stretch. Plus he did it against the Boston Celtics! One of the best defensive teams of the 80's

There are so many factors you can put in this to change the debate in favor of either one but you must remember that Jordan also had more time, as Fouled Out said, it went to D:OT and as Fouled Out continued to say, this is going to come down to a Kobe vs. Jordan debate [IMG] The fact about this is you can not compare the two, they were at different times, sircumstances, enemies, and players, way too many factors.

It doesnt matter if it wasnt in the final seconds or not, his performance was clutch by these standards. Besides, Jordan scored 63 and his team LOST. It was the Celtics, I know, but still, the loss degrades his 63-pt performance.

I also watched extended highlights of this game on youtube and the defense on MJ was not very good. As pt said, it wasn't as if the defense was great.Secondly, MJ's game came in a double overtime loss. That obviously inflated his stats. The losing factor also has to weigh in.Kobe scored 55 in one half and brought his team back from an 18 point deficit. This goes to Kobe easily.Mj's 69 point performance on the other hand is crazy :worthy:
