    All Defense

PG (unsure who the best defensive option is at PG. Miller,Roy,Bayless,Williams,AJ)
SG Matthews (Roy if he concentrates on D, which he rarely does)
    SF Batum
    PF Camby
    C Oden

Considering all the defensive players on the Blazers, there are a lot of potential defensive units.

Shooting (this one is hard for this team, lack of distance shooters at least.)

    PG Rudy
    SG Matthews
    SF Batum
    PF Aldridge
    C Oden?

Try a few lineups and comment on some

Rudy / Matthews / Roy / Aldridge / Camby would be a fun lineup: Roy has people to dump out to, and some good off-ball defense to help out. It would require Matthews or Rudy to "play SF" on offense so that Roy isn't standing out in a corner.

Ya. Likely Matthews would just play SF on both O and D while Roy and Rudy would split PG/SG. I don't think this would work against teams with big great SF's like the thunder, but against an average SF I think it works well.

    Playoff starting unit:
    Roy at 100%
    Aldridge at 100%
    Miller at 100%
    Batum at 100%
    Oden at 100%

If that happens, I'll be happy as a pig in rose-scented shit.

I like your defensive team, but I would go with (for defense):

    PG: Batum
    SG: Roy (actually playing D)
    SF: Matthews
    PF: Camby
    C: Oden

I think this unit could be fascinating. Now if we only had someone to lead the break after the steal, block, etc.

I would love to see this line-up:

Roy, Mathews, Batum, Aldridge, Oden - where on offense: PG:Roy, SG: WM, SF: Batum, PF: Aldridge, C:Oden and on defense, Batum guards the PG and WM guards the better player of the opposition's SG,SG - with Roy sliding for the other.

RAMBO is the best starting unit and should see the majority of time on the floor this season. This season has the most obvious starting lineup locked up before training camp unless you go back to Rasheed teams. Injuries, or poor coaching, are the wildcard.

Yes it would be fun to see Wesley/Camby sub in for Roy/Aldridge for a super defensive unit.

    Bayless
    Wesley
    Batum
    Camby
    Oden

Sadly we really don’t have a decent defensive 1 so I guess Bayless is by default. The other 4 are very good defenders, so if you think of him as being the 5th best defender its not so bad. I'm not sure if we can really see that lineup, Batum and Oden are the two starters I expect to see the least playing time. Camby will rarely be playing with Oden, especially at start of the season, and to also have Batum, who has trouble playing more than 25mpg, playing is not very realistic. Its fun to day dream about and I suppose we could go to it for short stretches if Nate wanted to throw defenders out there.

How about the worst lineup we can put on the floor?

    Armon
    Bayless
    Babbit
    Pendegraph
    Pryzbilla

That lineup would still win more games than Minny or Golden State.

Pound the ball into Oden... feed the beast. Drive and dish to Camby or Matthews or Batum. Not a ton of scoring, but when you pitch a shutout, you only need one run.

I don't think Golden State is quite that terribly horrible. They had far more injuries than the Blazers last season which I would not expect again.

more? I know they had a ton, but so did the Blazers. I am at work and don't have time, but it would be interesting to see an injury comparison analysis between the two teams, that took into account not just games missed, but some quatatative way of assessing who missed the games, like games missed by PER or something of the like.

Armon is a better defensive 1 than Bayless. At least in terms of man-to-man defense. I guess we'll see if he can play decent team D. But with Armon being so young and raw, that team would really struggle getting into an offensive set.

I'm at work now too so can't look up the stats but I remember it was significantly more games. Remember that last game against the Blazers? They had 4 guys play 48minutes and had to have Devon George come back in the game with 6 fouls because they had no other available bodies on the 15 man roster.

Yeah, they definitely had more injuries than we did, but a good 20+ games' worth. With both teams above 300 games missed though, it's not a huge difference.

I take back my GS crack, and replace it with a New Jersey crack. :D

I thought about puting Armon over Bayless but being an untested rookie it just didn't sound plausible; we also don't really know what his defense will be in the NBA. He looked good in summer league? Bayless should already be in the rotation, so him getting some PT at PG is a realistic option, I can't see any scenario where Armon is playing this season unless there are multiple injuries.

They may have had more games missed, but my question takes into account the quality of the players missing games. Both Oden and Rudy missed games for the Blazers, but Oden had a PER of 23.1 and Rudy 13.1. So my question is, which team had more significant injuries. (Blazers Sum missed Games * PER) vs (GS Sum missed Games * PER)

    +1

Haven't really seen Matthews defense on this roster to know how it sizes up, but same with that we haven't seen Armon's defense either, but we know it is very good and likely miles ahead of Bayless or Miller.

So I'd go with Armon, Matthews, Batum, Camby and Oden as a squad that would hold Golden State to 70 points.

    In 3OT... and we'd win by 2 points. :D
