They probably assume if he walks it is for a bigger market... at least they aren't losing him to a division rival then.

Not that I dislike the idea.

The whole reason he's leaving Denver is to get to New York.

Great so we trade good players and quality people for the double headed douche combo of Anthony and Anderson. I don't care if Anthony scores 35 points a game here I still think hes a chump. Hes a punk who starts fights then runs from them and also makes his friends take the blame for his weed.

I don't really want trade for a black-hole on offense who is about as efficient as Randolph was on defense.

In before the homers say that's too much.

As for the deal, you'd need to sweeten it a lot for them not to laugh

This could be just the basics for the deal. I've read on realgm they want young players/picks, maybe the way to sweeten the deal some more is add one or two of Babbitt and the rookie SG. then you can throw in the rights to one or two of the Euro's and a pick and/or cash. I see Babbitt and moreso the rookie SG as question marks who could pan out or not pan out. I guess if we gave them both, we'd probably be giving them, between them, at least one good prospect.
Plus they already get a young, proven starting SF in Batum, a high-potential/high-energy player in Rudy and two big-men who, although aging, can give you very solid contribution. If I'm the Nuggets, I wouldn't normally make this trade but if Carmelo wants out, this could be one of the best offers they get.

Also - Even though I offered this deal I could see why people wouldn't want to do it for Portland. Losing Batum's defense and Rudy's shooting hurts a lot and Carmelo co-existing with Roy is something we're not sure happens. but I like it for the potential offensively and for shortening the bench. Carmelo would demand and get Roy minutes. On the bench, we would have Bayless at 1/2, Wesley at 2/3, Dante at 3/4 and Andersen at 4/5, I guess their forte would be subbing in some defense, having just the 4 of them (+Johnson?) worthy of minutes would make life easier for Nate.

I don't want Melo and Melo doesn't want us. I would be all in favor of taking Battier as part of a three-way trade that netted Houston Carmelo, because I have a feeling he's going to end up there anyway.

The better idea is to be involved in a multi-team trade for Melo where we get what we want, like maybe Billups.

That doesn't have to be a multi-team trade: Billups has a pretty huge salary himself, so he'd likely be a whole separate trade. (I agree that it would be nice to get him, but unfortunately we don't really have the right chips that we're prepared to give up. If Denver was happy with Miller + Joel, then fine. But I don't really see it.)

Plus we're assuming that they'd trade Billups if they ditched Melo. That seems obvious, because he's old and they'd be rebuilding, but he's also a great mentor for young players and he's from Denver, so he might want (and Denver might want him) to stick around and phase into management.

This is Paul Allen's specialty. Since all owners except him have economy (e.g. dumping a bad contract) as one of their trade goals, he can operate as a financier. Every business partnership needs one partner who has excess money to invest.

Ian Thomsen thinks the Blazers should get in on the Carmelo sweepstakes in his article where he highlights 5 teams that he considers options for his new home.

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20....anthony.teams/index.html?xid=cnnbin&hpt=Sbin

I am not fond of the idea.

Carmelo is an explosive scorer. I don't doubt that. Carmelo is an underrated clutch scorer. And over the last couple of seasons he has improved his shot selection, defense and focus.

Still, he is a knucklehead, a volume scorer and a guy that doesn't make the other players a lot better. I don't think he is a negative for his teams. Just not a big positive other than the obvious of being a good Option A wing scorer. We already have one of those.
