Utah gets a lot weaker in that trade.

If Harris is available, for basically nothing, Cho needs to make something happen.

Doesn't Charlotte have a ton of salary space since they dropped Dampier? So they can absorb salaries without giving up anything/much. Means the Nets don't have to take on additional salary in the deal as well.

Certainly a benefit we don't have.

They were gonna be in the Tax if they kept Dampier's 10 million dollar contract. So dropping to 55 million is basically no cap space.

If this goes down Denver is in full-blown rebuilding mode. I bet it wouldn't be too hard to get Billups....

Can we have Kirilenko? He'd be a great backup for both forwards. He's still a terror on defense and can actually score pretty well if you play him at the four.

I really don't understand why Utah would prefer Diaw, though.

    To answer both my questions:
    1. No. He earns SEVENTEEN MILLION this year. We just don't have enough junk to swap for him. Our only hope would be if he were waived, but even then, I can't see him picking us over, say, the Heat or the Lakers.
    2. Because Diaw only earns nine million, so the Jazz would save $8M.

I am trying to understand what you mean, because they are getting Carmello back. Is trading Devin Harris really for nothing when you are getting Carmello Anthony back?

I can see why Charlotte does this. By the time they are done, they unload a fat pile of shit, get a fast point guard, and a SF who can back up Gerald Wallace and last but not least, a project center.

New Jersey brings in Melo and then clears out the PG spot so they can bring in Chris Paul next year. It's so blatantly obvious what is going on here and the NBA fixes up another major market team in the east.

Utah is trying to cut salary. There is no other explanation.

I think MM's point is that if Charlotte can get Harris by giving up no more than Diaw, then why can't we jump in to their place and get Harris by giving up Joel or Miller?

Look at the deal again and read through it all the way. Where is the supplied SF to fill back in for Denver? If Portland entered that deal, the two players you mention aren't a really good fit for the teams involved.

Utah needs forward depth. Denver needs a SF to replace Carmello in the lineup. Neither one needs Miller. Neither one needs Joel, especially since he will be hurt for part of the year. They need functional players that will enhance their lineup. I do not see either player doing this. You may not like Boris Diaw, and this year he may very well show up to camp "Kemp'd". But his history shows he is a versatile front line guy with playoff experience who can play multiple positions. Which is what Utah needs, which is the key here. Because Utah is providing Denver with their replacement SF.
