"After time had run out on a frenetic finish, and they trudged to the locker room amidst the thunderous noise of Qwest Field, the looks on the Chargers' faces were not of incredulity but recognition of exactly what had happened.

"Five turnovers and two special teams touchdowns," Philip Rivers would say later, "that's a recipe for a loss."

Ultimately, the Chargers could not beat two teams on Sunday.

They gave the ball away five times and gave Leon Washington room to return kickoffs 101 and 99 yards for touchdowns, and the upstart, no-name Seattle Seahawks beat them 27-20.

    "Sad," safety Paul Oliver said.

"Way too many errors," left tackle Brandyn Dombrowski said.

Despite being consistently backed up, the Chargers' defense would allow just one touchdown and a field goal. Seattle gained 26 yards (to the Chargers' 377) in the second half.

Philip Rivers threw for a team-record 455 yards. The Chargers drove into the red zone six times but scored just two touchdowns and a field goal. Once, they fumbled at the seven."
