I changed the subject at the point I started discussing places in Bend. Maris, we should hang out next time I'm in Bend. Maybe go to Stars, or something?
Luckily, that Stars brings in women from Portland on the weekends. As for the Pine Tavern, it's my favorite place there. I always try to get a seat by the tree. Oh, and El Jimador on Bond Street is good Mexican eats.
Interstate Tavern....Rainier, Oregon by far the best crab or shrimp sandwich, cocktail, or salad you will EVER find ANYWHERE. Nicks Coney Island....Hawthorne St Tads Chickn & Dumplins.....Troutdale, Oregon Toms Pizza.....North Lombard Spiffys...... Hwy 12 exit off of I-5...just south of Chehalis Washington.....best pie anywhere Mary McCranks.... Henry Jackson Hwy....just south of Chehalis...home cookin at its best Bankok Thai..... East Burnside and 50th.....free dessert if it is your first time there
I've been to Tom's Pizza several times and they have an account there where I work so we always get pizza from there. I'm not impressed. That Interstate place sounds good though, if I'm ever in Rainier I'll have to check it out.
I enjoyed Tribute's East Coast Sandwiches and Pizza the one time I went. Their "Philly Cheese Steak" is pretty damn good, though I cannot compare it to Geno's or Pat's in Philly. Never have had them.
I was out on Columbia Blvd. the other day and saw a Roake's II. I wanted to stop by, but didn't have time. Shoot, I drive by the original Roake's (Gladstone/McLoughlin) almost every day and haven't even been there.....yet! Anyone?
There is a place called Philly's I think across from QFC over in Sellwood that's pretty good. I have been to Geno's in Philly and that shit is the BOMB!!!! So authentic and good!
Taqueria Don Pancho -2000 NE Alberta St. - $4 Enchiladas, $ something tacos, $1 mini Coronas The spot used to be La Bonita back in the day, then more recently La Sirenita, but this hole in the wall Taqueria connected to the Mercado is the spot for happy hour.
I've at there once, it was pretty good. My buddy lives literally right across the street. Annies dougnuts right down the street is great hangover food.
I've always had a fondness for La Carreta on McLoughlin by Ross Island. My wife and I were having dinner there when we made the final decision to move to Beautiful Central Oregon. The prawns wrapped in bacon are great. I forget what they call them but they have these killer drinks they serve in wooden bowls. We just called them bowls of liquor.
I drive by there just about every day. Have always wanted to stop in. They seem to have and ongoing 2-fer fajitas special. Something like 2-fer $12.95 Thanks for the tip. I'll check them out...........
Report on my late lunch at Lupes' Escape. Hole in the wall decor. Check Strong margarita. Check Real and homemade ingredients. Check I had the lunch special, which today was a Burrito Juarez (burrito served enchilada-style stuffed with beans, rice, cheese, pork verde, and chicken, and topped with melted cheese and sour cream). It was literally about 10" x 6" and took up about 2/3 of the plate, with the rest of the plate being packed with equal portions of rice and refried beans. The burrito had some onions and peppers in it as well, but not enough to overpower the dish. The chips and salsa (both homemade) were included and were incredible. The one negative is that there wasn't much kick to the burrito, but then again, this is an authentic Mexican restaurant and not TexMex, so I added some hot sauce. So, for a $3.50 margarita, and a $5.50 lunch, I was so stuffed that I didn't eat dinner. I will definitely go there again the next time I end up in Aloha. Thanks for the tip, tlongII! I look forward to checking out many of the other holes in the wall listed in the thread as I travel around the metro area.
I hesitate to try Mexican food in Oregon since I live in California. Its like expecting great salmon dishes here in LA.
My boss told me today that this place is awesome................especially the steaks! http://www.menupix.com/menudirectory/menu.php?id=905394
