Cantwell vs. Nedkov canceled; Cantwell is injured and there is no time to find a replacement.

Just a quick correction--it seems Spike is airing the PPV at 8:00pm, not 10:00.

In Canada the show will be live on Rogers SportsNet One (if you get that channel).

Re: UFC 120: Bisping vs. Akiyama (Oct. 16th) [No Spoilers!]

So the event had a few surprises which was nice.

Gustaffson/Diabate -- Awesome scrap from two very different LHW strikers. Gustaffson reminds me of a more raw Jon Jones. Hope to see more of him.

Wilks/Patrick -- This one was shown on the live broadcast but not on the SpikeTV show later on. I can't remember seeing a fighter as relaxed in the Octagon as Claude Patrick was today. He was literally sitting down chilling as Wilks made his way into the Octagon. He methodically defeated Wilks with good top control BJJ and some nice Greco take-downs. His striking wasn't so good--perhaps we'll see it some other time--but he is very patient and competent on the ground. Wilks continues to be a hot/cold fighter who probably won't amount to much in the UFC. Dunno what is next for Patrick--perhaps a fight with John Hathaway?

Browne/Kongo -- can we just agree that Kongo is a dirty fighter now? The guy fouls every fight. He always gets guys in the nuts and commits other infractions such as grabbing the fence, holding the shorts, and poking eyes. It cost him the fight tonight. Browne was wild and had a few good punches but for the most part Kongo could've picked him apart and won by knockout if he wasn't so intent on clutching and time wasting. I'm bored with him in the UFC and I wouldn't be surprised if they decide to let him go and get his heart back in the indy's. Unfortunately he isn't a spring chick anymore and he might not make his way back into the company so I don't know what they will do with him. Browne is out of control and needs to refine his game with a good camp such as American Top Team.

Hathaway/Pyle -- I was surprised here. Hathaway was dominated. Pyle did everything right and taught the young welterweight prospect a lesson. This will be a good experience for Hathaway if he has his head on straight, which from interviews seems to be the case. I'm not sure where it puts Pyle. Maybe we'll see him fight Chris Lytle or someone of that ilk? Hathaway will likely get an easier opponent next to rebound with. The UFC is pretty good about letting young prospects like him and Rory MacDonald/Evan Dunham get their feet back under them after a loss. I can't see this fight damaging Hathaway's career--it's just slowing it down a bit.

Sass/Holst -- so Holst was fighting a guy who hunts triangle chokes and he repeatedly jumped into his guard. Smart.

Hardy/Condit -- whoa! Condit has been working with British Muay Thai coach Kru Phil Nurse, who is part of Greg Jackson's team, and it showed. I don't recall seeing Condit blast someone like that before. He poured it on against MacDonald but didn't really have that knockout punch power in his shots. We're seeing him develop since losing to Kampmann and a title shot can't be far off. Sucks for Hardy who could've landed the exact same punch in that exchange had he been a fraction faster. He actually wobbled Condit with his left hook as Condit was knocking him out. Hardy is a tough SOB who also seems to be bright and eager to improve so we'll see him redouble his efforts and get back in the cage before long. I'd like to see Condit get another step up in competition--if Shields is getting the next shot (supposing he beats Kampmann which is in no way a foregone conclusion) maybe Condit will fight Fitch? Condit has an active guard and might be able to dissuade Fitch from laying on him.

Bisping/Akiyama -- and now we get to the utterly predictable. Akiyama's power was evident early on but as expected Bisping out worked Akiyama (who gassed out, as usual) for a unanimous decision. Bisping is still a big win away from a title shot but I don't know who it will come against. He said he wants the winner of Marquardt/Okami and that seems like a fine idea considering the title isn't going to be defended (vs. Belfort) until January/February, according to Ed Soares. Akiyama is in danger of being cut but I think the UFC will give him one more chance since he's an exciting scrapper.

Condit wants the winner of Kampmann/Shields.

So Fitch & Condit both want that title shot. They both want the winner of Kampmann/Shields but if Shields wins, he's getting the title shot. If Kampmann wins he'll probably need another win to get there.

Seems reasonable to think those two will fight to be the #2 contender?
