"The Florida Panthers took Tuesday off and will have an abbreviated schedule on Wednesday as the team canceled their preseason game against the Carolina Hurricanes because of Tropical Storm Nicole.

Florida was supposed to play host to a pair of preseason games at BankAtlantic Center. Friday's game against the Lightning will go on as scheduled.

``We felt that it was in the best interest and safety of our fans, our players and the Carolina Hurricanes to cancel Wednesday's game due to the threat of the impending tropical storm,'' general manager Dale Tallon said in a statement."
