    "Tom Brady knows receivers.

He's listened to them walk back to the huddle, proclaim the utter truth that they were open, only to later watch the film and find them blanketed by three defensive backs.

"I've come to expect that from the receivers - they want the ball," the Patriots quarterback said yesterday. "I've never met a receiver that didn't say, 'I was open.' But as long as we're doing well, everybody's happy."

Thus far, the Patriots' top two wide receivers have been targeted fewer times than last season, while Brady has spread it around as if buttering bread. But if the results are any indication, the receivers are more than happy.

The NFL's No. 1 scoring offense has used increased participation from players not named Randy Moss and Wes Welker, and it has flourished.

"The guys who have opportunities to get it are getting it - more so than we're trying to throw the ball to one player," Brady said. "If you want one guy to catch all the balls, you can do that. Then everyone else will say, 'Everyone else stinks except this one guy.' We're trying to be efficient as an offense."

They have been. Brady has connected with at least seven receivers each game, and the leader in receiving yards is rookie tight end Aaron Hernandez with 211 - not Moss or Welker."
