"After slaying the Saints dragon last week, the Falcons may need to watch out for a sneakier foe awaiting them Sunday.

At 0-3, the winless 49ers head to Atlanta this weekend, demanding seemingly little attention from the Falcons, who are 2-1 and looking like a contender in a wide-open NFC.

There was no question last week that the defending Super Bowl champs would require the Falcons' best effort to defeat them. Now, a San Francisco team hungry for its first win looks like a trap, and the players will need to keep focused if they're going to avoid a letdown.

"They're an extremely talented team; there's no question about that," Falcons offensive guard Justin Blalock said. "I'm not sure what's going on with their games. I've watched both sides of the ball. Whatever's going on, I know they have excellent players, and I know they're going to be ready for this game. I know we're going to get their best shot."

They didn't last October, when the Falcons flew to the West Coast and hammered the 49ers 45-10. It's still the Falcons' most lopsided victory since 2004, when they beat the Chiefs 56-10.

It was a wire-to-wire drubbing, in which the Falcons never trailed, jumping to a 14-0 advantage and leading 35-10 at halftime before cruising to the victory.

Playing a winless team would pose enough threat for distraction if that team had beaten the Falcons last season, but the fresh memory of a blowout could make the Falcons even more ripe for getting caught in a classic NFL trap game."
