It Is Time For The Pistons To Part Ways With Rasheed WallaceJames Morisette28th May, 2006Rasheed Wallace's display of abysmal behavior and shoddy worksmanship during last night?s 98-83 loss to the Miami Heat should serve as grounds for dismissal by owner Bill Davidson once this season is over. This may seem to serve as a harsh statement, but many NBA and Detroit fans alike can attest to the fact that Wallace's behavior last night was not a once in a while phenomenon - it is an everyday phenomenon. After a brief moment of silence, Wallace has reemerged as the same menace he was in Portland. For those whom did not see the game, Fox Sports columnist Charley Rosen best explained Wallace's childlike behavior:"The only Piston who was true to form was R. Wallace ? and only because he reverted to his psycho-mode. He was so upset about not getting sufficient post-up opportunities that during a second-quarter timeout, he sat on the scorer's table while, 30-feet away, the rest of his teammates gathered around Flip Saunders. Shortly thereafter, when Rasheed was summoned to the bench after picking up his second foul, he angrily waved off his coach's proffered hand. When he finally took his seat, Wallace complained to a teammate about the injustice of being yanked so early with so few fouls. Then, just before the second half commenced, Rasheed loudly cursed the referees."While other Piston players will not publicly admit it, Wallace currently serves as a weak link on a Championship caliber team. And it is time Bill Davidson, whom is the same person that canned Larry Brown when Brown's selfish behavior and personal agenda, nearly led to the early demise of the defending champions last season, to begin seeking trades for Wallace before he divides and conquers and damages the Pistons beyond repair.Davidson certainly has many options.Minnesota Timberwolves superstar Kevin Garnett has already expressed his frustration with his subpar team, and has great respect for his former coach Flip Saunders. Trading Garnett to Detroit for Wallace along with Carlos Delfino and picks to reconnect him with Saunders would make sense. Garnett would not only slip right into Wallace's forward position alongside Tayshaun Prince, but he would also bring consistency to both ends of the hardwood but without consistently childlike behavior to include barking at the officials. If Garnett truly is off the market, Antonio McDyess, who has seemed to return to greatness after suffering a potential career ending knee injury, could slip into Wallace's position as the starter and subsequently open the door for a multitude of other trades for a player or players possessing solid three-point shooting ability. This would also open the door for promising Cincinatti alumini Jason Maxiell, i.e. Baby Ben Wallace, and California high school standout Amir Johnson to earn some playing time for the Pistons. The options for Wallace are endless, and if Davidson and Piston President of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars were smart - which they are - they would begin to look into trading Wallace before he rips apart the very core that he helped accentuate upon his arrival in the Motor City.In other words, if Davidson and Dumars do not strike to control Wallace after last nights adolescent behavior, or trade him at seasons end, the legacy that is this Piston team, will forever be tarnished.James M. I completely disagree with this, and after seeing that it was written by one of the boneheads at RealGM, I don't think there is any reason to explain why.
Yeah I don't agree with this either. I used this as shock value. Rasheed Wallace is not that bad of a person. It's just they have a stupid coach that won't for some reason give Sheed more opportunities in the post.
I have to agree with this. Rasheed Wallace seems to be a person who isn't easy to get along with. He is always getting technical fouls and getting fined for mouthing off after some of the games. Also, he seems to be in the decline; I think they should try and get something for him while they still can.
If he's so bad and not helping the team, why keep him through the postseason?Edit: I didn't read the article, because I can imagine everything that was said has been said before.
As a pistons fan i 100% agree with this guy. Sheed is a cancer and if we could trade him to Minny for KG i would do it in a heartbeat and not even think about it. Sheed was on good behavior for almost 3 full seasons but really showed his true colors this last week. I think the Pistons should suspend him for the remainder of the playoffs and part ways with him at seasons end. I used to love sheed but i think he is 90% to blame for the way the pistons are playing and they way they whine. LB kept sheed under controll and Flip did it for most of the season right up untill the pistons started to lose. It makes you wonder if the pistons were say only .500 40 games into the season what sheed would have done. This guy needs to go and i say send him to the highest bidder out west. (other than San Antonio, Dallas and the Clippers)

I mean that's their modo "It's time to go to work", I don't see Sheed fitting the bill. If we could do the trade for KG that would be sweet. Minnesota is full of his type. KG wants a team that works hard like us and wins. I could possibly see a trade going down, but before we talk about this. The Pistons better lay everything on the line in the next three games and get this Eastern Conference title, and that especially goes for you Rasheed.
well, i'm very mad at him because he didnt come to play much this whole offseason. after he hurt his ankle, it seems like he wasnt very encouraged to play anymore. I think that we would be a better matchup against the Mavs though because he actually matches up with Dirk(although many think no one does, atleast on Miami...i agree).but he has proven to be a good player with Detroit, not just a Bad Boy(of the league)Keep him, or Trade him for SOMEONE REALLY NICE....who would you trade him for?I say a top 5 draft pick, or Rashard Lewis of the Sonics, along with a backup guard( I would say Matteen Cleaves, but they let him go)...help me out here..
I love how everyone is loving Sheed when he helps us win the championship and as soon as he does poorly everyone is saying he is the reason we lost. Yes he is part of the reason he lost but only because he had a bad ankle sprain and couldn't do the things he does for this team at a high level. But i disagree he is 90% to blame for the way they played. Tayshaun was great a home for us but on the road he faded. Chauncey and Rip both had good and bad games but were not consistent enought for the playoffs. Ben although still averaging 9.5 rebounds in this series didn't have those Ben like rebounding like he does. Also Ben didn't block shots like he did in the reg. season(2.21bpg) or in the other two series (1.2/1.7bpg), he didn't come that close to even having a block per game(.67). The bench is at fault for not being able to come in a give a lift, although Dyess did his best with his left hand in a glove. Part of the bench problems fall on Flip for not playing them more in reg. season. Flip also hasn't been there and done well in the playoffs so this is a learning experience for him, he will be able to go into next knowing he needs to develop an 8(9) man rotation for the playoffs and in the reg. season to go deep in the bench. Develop younger players(Delfino,Amir,Acker,JMax) next year.So no I don't think its Sheeds fault and I don't think its time to part ways with Sheed because KG IS NOT COMING TO DETROIT. Sides what has KG won in the postseason? nothing. Sheed has proven he can win in the postseason. KG hasn't. The players love Sheed, no reason to break that up. What other teams would be willing to take Sheed?
