"The Pistons are communicating defensively, and for a team that finished 27-55 last season, that's good. Communicating on defense means the players have tried to improve in an area where they need the most structure and commitment. The first test comes tonight in Miami when the Pistons face LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and the Heat. "We can't go through another 27-win season," Pistons center Ben Wallace said. "... I like the fact that we have a lot of guys that took it to heart, took it personal the fact that we won 27 games. I think I heard everybody talk about it. That's what we need to do. That's not something you can sweep under the rug and forget about it. It should leave a bitter taste in your mouth. You need to be upset about what happened last year and come in and try to make a change." If Ben Gordon, Richard Hamilton, Tracy McGrady, Tayshaun Prince and Rodney Stuckey stay healthy, the Pistons won't have much problem scoring, but the defense needs drastic improvement if they are to battle for one of the last playoff spots in the Eastern Conference. The Pistons allowed 99.1 points per game last year -- their most since 1999-2000. "We had a great film session on Sunday and guys came out and responded from it," coach John Kuester said of the team's attention to defense. "That's the thing I was most pleased with the last two practices is the carryover we're having."" http://www.freep.com/article/201010...ts03/Pistons-focused-on-improving-defensively
