"Three weeks after what may have been the worst loss in the organization's history, the Bruins were busy laying the bricks for a season of redemption.

On June 4, the Bruins signed Shawn Thornton to a two-year extension, the first in a series of transactions meant to tuck away the meltdown against Philadelphia in the second round of the playoffs.

Dennis Seidenberg signed a four-year extension. Cam Neely was named team president. Nathan Horton and Gregory Campbell arrived from Florida while Dennis Wideman was sent south. Johnny Boychuk re-upped for two years. Tyler Seguin, the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, became a Bruin. Mark Recchi committed for another year of his endless career. Daniel Paille signed a two-year extension. Mark Stuart agreed to a one-year deal. Blake Wheeler was given a one-year, $2.2 million arbitration award. Doug Jarvis was hired to replace Craig Ramsay as assistant coach. Tough guy Brian McGrattan earned a tryout."
