"Only two games into the season and already the Rangers-Islanders rivalry is spiky with controversy. A player directed a vulgar gesture at an opponent, a coach stormed out of the postgame news conference and the Islanders overcame a late deficit Monday with three goals in the final 4 minutes 24 seconds to win, 6-4.

It was an encouraging victory for the injury-riddled Islanders, who were without their star second-year center, John Tavares, after he left the opening-night 5-4 shootout defeat against Dallas here on Saturday with concussionlike symptoms.

But the main topic of conversation after the Columbus Day matinee involved a vulgar gesture, aimed at the Rangers' Sean Avery by Islanders defenseman James Wisniewski. It occurred after a brief episode of pushing and shoving in the first period. No penalty was assessed on the play."

I was in the middle of my history classic when this game started. I turned my ipod on and went to my Scorecenter app from the NHL and watched the stats there. There was a fight, and Wiz ended up giving a Ranger a cut throat expression... Wiz is crazy...
