Here's my ranking of coaches I'd rather have than Nate:

    1. Pop
    2. Sloan
    3. PJ
    4. Adelman
    5. D'Antoni
    6. Brown
    7. SVG
    8. Karl
    9. Rivers
    10. Thib
    11. JVG (yea, he's not in the league. I know)
    12. Avery
    13. Scott
    14. Monty (player development extraordinaire)
    15. Flip
    16. Skiles

On that list in the link, if we look at playoff series wins, Nate with his one would rank in the bottom 10.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
I'm with you up to here (and would even throw in Flip Saunders, whom you've relegated to near the bottom of your list) but as for the rest, I see it as six of one, half a dozen of the other. I don't McMillan is clearly better than any of them, but I don't think any of them are clearly better than McMillan. I don't think the team's fortunes would change appreciably with any of those others.

Also, I'd put Jackson at the top of the list and Sloan at the bottom of those four. I'm not sure who I'd prefer of Popovich and Adelman.

My mistake, I was thinking of someone else. I don't pay enough attention to who says what around here.

All I know is mixum likes seeing the Blazers fail and MM doesn't like Nate and thinks the Blazers only hires Seattle people. I think KS is gay . . . or is that HCP? (unny how I tend to rememeber the negative posters)

FWIW- I remember posters were upset by Nate's comment last preseason that people critizing Nate for something "don't know basketball". . . probably not the best thing for a coach to say and got some posters here upset. Thought you were one of them, but guess not.

To be fair, it's a bit of a two-edged sword. The coach affects, tangentially or not, a lot that goes on in a game.

If I was to say "I don't think Batum gets enough playing time", then a pro-Nate guy can say (and has said) "you just hate Nate!" If I was to say that I would've liked to have seen Webster instead of Bayless take that last shot, then it can be construed as a dig on Nate. If someone points out that Team A made defensive adjustments and Portland didn't respond well or make their own, it's construed as a dig on Nate.

So on most topics, if you'd like to defend the coach by saying "you just hate Nate", there won't be much stuff to talk about. :dunno:

PJ as in PJ Carlesimo? The same dipshit that though it was a great idea to start Dudley over Sabonis? The same dipshit that tried running Kevin Durant at SG until he got fired?

I thought he meant Carlesimo too -- and was shocked by it, LOL. Although I did wonder why Jackson wasn't on his list. :)

That would be because he's had 2 of the best players in the league in all of his successful seasons. Not much coaching going on there.

And any time he didn't have two hall of fame level players, it was one and done.

Roller-pig is over-rated and needs to retire.

    Jerry Sloan, you mean?

Phil Jackson won it in 95-96.

Rivers is underrated, IMO. People expected way too much of him with that crappy roster he had a couple years back. Bill Simmons spent so much time ripping him back then. I think he affected the national perspective. Simmons just didn't realize that guys like Gerald Green, Ryan Gomes and Delonte West were not going to be NBA all-stars.
