With the first official day of practice on Friday, Oregon State men’s basketball coach Craig Robinson can’t be certain of too many things.

But as he embarks on his third season with the Beavers, and contemplates a roster stocked with nine freshmen and sophomores, he is fully confident that the program is headed in the right direction.

“I feel like it’s ahead of schedule,” Robinson said. “I thought I would have this feeling in year four or five, but I have it in year three. ... I think our recruiting is ahead of schedule and I think our ability is ahead of schedule. The progress has been quicker than I thought it would be.”

Still, Robinson, who has a record of 32-36 in his first two years at OSU, including 15 wins in the Pac-10 Conference, and a College Basketball Invitational championship, tempers his enthusiasm with one huge qualifier.

Looks like its another disappointing season. They are way off track when they could have won at Stanford.
