Members of the group voiced their opinion to the council Monday night. The proposed spending plan includes $10 million to subsidize the Indiana Pacers at Conseco Fieldhouse. Several community groups came to speak out against the budget, saying that other needs should take priority over the Pacers including transportation, the library, and parks. "Downtown Indianapolis is in many ways functioning as a city upon a hill but I'm also left wondering and being very concerned about the outlying parts of the city," said one speaker. The deal recently signed by the CIB and the Pacers calls for the team to stay in town for at least the next three years.
