"The Tampa Bay Lightning arrived as advertised Wednesday night, with rookie coach Guy Boucher's go-go style producing loads of offence. Goaltender Carey Price was up to the challenge for most of the night as he made 43 saves but he and the Canadiens found themselves on the short end of a 4-3 count when Ryan Malone scored on a goalmouth scramble with 51 seconds remaining in overtime. Steve Stamkos, who shared the Maurice Richard Trophy as the NHL's top goal-scorer last season, sent the game into overtime when he scored a power-play goal with 1:18 remaining in regulation. The Lightning had the advantage after P.K. Subban was sent for high-sticking and Vinnie Lecavalier made the key play as he froze the defence by faking a shot from the high slot before passing to Stamkos at the side of the net. Andrei Kostitsyn gave the Canadiens a 3-2 lead when he scored at 11:25 of the third period. The goal came 31 seconds after Tampa Bay's Marty St. Louis had tied the score. Josh Gorges started the play on the winning goal with a pass to Tomas Plekanec as he was being hit. Plekanec stickhandled past Mike Lundin, creating a 2-on-1 with Pavel Kubina back. Plekanec waited until Kubina committed himself and then set up Kostitsyn. Laval native St. Louis tied at score at 10:54 after P.K. Subban blocked a shot by Steve Stamkos. St. Louis jumped on the loose puck and lifted a short shot over Price. Maxim Lapierre opened the scoring for the Canadiens when the Lightning failed to clear the puck out of its zone. Lapierre picked up a loose puck in the faceoff circle to the left of Smith and beat him with a shot to the far side at 5:22. Plekanec made it 2-0 at 18:07 of the first period when he found himself with a wide-open net thanks to linemate Michael Cammalleri. Smith made the initial save on Cammalleri after he was sent into the clear by Jaroslav Spacek. Cammalleri picked up his own rebound and skated to the right of the net. He brought two defenders and Smith also moved over to cover a possible but Cammalleri passed cross-ice to Plekanec." http://www.montrealgazette.com/spor...ing ruins Habs home opener/3668270/story.html
